This pick has Vikings fans across the country all upset. The question everyone is asking is why the Vikings would give up 2 3rd rounders for a pick that likely would have fallen to thim in the third round, especially with Whitehurst and Jacobs still on the board.

I am not a great evaluator of talent, but did find this highlight video:

I'd be interested in other's thoughts. The kid does have a cannon for an arm, but arm strength is one of those things that I think is overrated. I don't see him stepping into a starter role for several years. He is definitely unpolished and needs several years of coaching to get him to a starter status.

The funny thing is, scouts can't seem to agree on him either. Some say he is stout against a strong rush while others say he gets flustered by it. Most agree that he has some delivery issues (correctable). Some say that he does not read defenses well while others are amazed at just how well he can read a defense.

Needless to say, I am intrigued by the pick. I do wish we would have kept both of our 3rd rounders and taken a chance that he falls to us and then look for a receiver (if any are available). I'm thinking the Vikings are hoping that Childress will be able to mold this kid into a solid starter. He has good size, speed, strength, and (according to some) football knowledge - its just a question of whether it comes together.

I think it was a reach on him. I would have rather seen him being taken in the 3rd. ESPN projecting this guy in the 6th round.

He ran a 4.67. He can throw the ball everywhere on the field, but he doesnt have the awareness. He might be a good pick down the road in 3 years.

It was a reach & he is a project. He and Darrell Hackney (UAB) were/are 5th or 6th rounders IMO.

Why does a team that runs the West Coast offense take someone who is more suited to St Louis, Miami, Oakland type offense?
