I just saw this brought up on the F/F thread. Are we gonna have any guys becoming Cancer and having to be gotten rid of on this team? Because that could open up a whole new set of problems. The F/F thread spoke of Jameer as possible cancer but i don't think he's that type of player. I'm just curious who on our team is a threat of becoming cancer?

Jameer is definitely not a cancer to the Magic, and to be honest with you I cant think of any player currently on the Magic that is a cancer.

I dont think Jameer is the kinda player that would be a cancer to the team.

Stevenson is the obvious choice for this question. He was stirring things up last season just prior to the trade deadline because he was unhappy with his role on the team. Should he not start this season, and lose minutes to Dooling he would probably begin to become a negative attitude in the locker room once more. I don?t think he will try and make a scene, but will push for a trade.

Stevenson is a risk in terms of becoming a cancer to the team but I'm also worried about Jameer. Don't get me wrong, I don't think he's the kind of person who becomes a cancer but I think Jameer isn't going to be very happy next season and I see him becoming very frustrated, demanding more involvement and more playing time and maybe even a trade. We are so stuck at PG/SG and everybody wants playing time: Dooling (16 in Miami), Francis (38 minutes), Jameer (20 minutes) and Stevenson (20 minutes), even Hedo plays some time at SG (about 5 to 10). That's about 99 to 104 minutes per game based on last years minutes per game and everybody is looking for more minutes which means there is bound to be difficulties coming up.

Hope our coach does his best to keep everybody happy.

Like you guys have said, Stevenson could easily be a cancer if he gets limited playing time or becomes unhappy with his role. Unfortunatly, Jameer has the chance to become a cancer just because of his mindset. Earlier in the offseason he said he plans on being the starting point guard and if someone wants to compete with him they will have to work very hard. It sounds like Jameer Nelson expects to be the starter which could cause him to become a cancer if he isn't given the starting job. Jameer knows he has talent and knows he could start on many teams in the league so he might demand a trade IF the Magic don't use him the way Nelson is planning. Hopefully Jameer stays down to earth and takes whatever role the team wants him to take because then this whole situation can be avoided.

I know about Nelson's mindset, however what I gathered from his comments is that he knew he was the best pg on the team, and he would start, bein the best on the team. It sounded like he would work incredibly hard so that no one would be better than he was, I'm not sure though. It soundfs more like he was calling out the other players at the pg to play better and challenging them than it sounded like he was going to be unhappy.

Hopefully you are right. I'm not saying that he is definently going to be a cancer to the team but there is a chance. If he is coming into this season expecting to be the starter and thinks he is the best point guard, hopefully he will be able to handle being benched if that situation comes up. From what I hear, the Magic staff will let Jameer Nelson and Keyon Dooling compete in training camp for the starting job so hopefully Nelson will be able to accpet any role the team assigns him.

I know they'll let them compete, that's the thing though, i'm 100% convinced Nelson is a better PG than Dooling, maybe i'm wrong

I'll have to go with Steve Francis as the potential team cancer for the Magic. If the Magic are not winning, don't be surprised to see him being the first to mouth off. I could see a friction take place between him and Howard, like he had with Yao Ming in Houston.

It might have looked like it, but Francis definitely did not have any friction with Yao in his last year in Houston. He was very happy in Houston and was willing to defer to Yao. They had a great relationship and Francis, although he got a high turnover average and had a career low in points, was a key part of the team and was the main reason the Rockets were able to stretch their playoff series to five against the Lakers.

If anything, the Franchise will be unhappy with the coaches and management, just like he was with Van Gundy for a while, and with the Magic front office for trading Mobley. He is very emotional and gets attached to teammates/fans easily, and is vocal about what he is happy and unhappy with.

However, I do concur in that Francis is most likely to be a cancer to the Magic, especially if he and Brian Hill get off on the wrong foot regarding touches and playing time. If they get along well, then Francis would be a great asset, just like he was with Tomjanovich.
