Detroit, what's with all the technical fouls? You're on top of the NBA world. The media loves you. You got seemingly everything going in your favor, and yet you lead the league in technicals (by a considerable margin). <div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'>Rank Team Technicals<br/>1Detroit48<br/>2Denver43<br/>3LA Lakers42<br/>4Miami40<br/>5Indiana39<br/>6New York36<br/>7NO/Oklahoma35<br/>8Chicago34<br/>9Houston31<br/>10Dallas29<br/>11Sacramento29<br/>12Charlotte28<br/>13Golden State28<br/>14Orlando26<br/>15Seattle25<br/>16Portland24<br/>17New Jersey23<br/>18Philadelphia22<br/>19Toronto21<br/> Milwaukee21<br/> Minnesota21<br/>22Cleveland21<br/>23Utah20<br/>24Atlanta20<br/>25San Antonio20<br/>26Phoenix20<br/>27Boston17<br/>28LA Clippers17<br/>29Washington14<br/>30Memphis14</div> What gives?
They get a lot of bad calls, and alot are prolly by rasheed whog ets called for a tech as soon as he opens his mouth. Then prince who never says a word gets technicals by waving his arms. Alot of the technicals are dumb but thats what your gonna get if your on a team with Rasheed.
If their is a weakness in this Detroit team, it's how quickly they lose their cool. Even last season this was a problem.
The interesting thing is that Detroit draws a ton of technical fouls from opponents as well. I don't have the updated numbers, but as of 3/09 they also lead the league in technical free throws attempted (with Billups converting on 17 more technical free throws than the second player in the league!). Denver, who's second in technical, shot the second most technical fouls. So obviously these two teams really get on the nerves of their opponents, and vice versa. http://82games.com/random16.htm
I can see that. I mean, Rasheed Wallace and Kenyon Martin, is their anybody that talks more than these 2 during games?
The technical problem comes from the fact that NO team complains the way the Pistons complain. 90% of the calls made in the game are followed by a Pistons player or two saying or doing something negetive. I can understand they get thier share of bad calls and its only right to complain about those...but when you're complaining over fouls that clearly weren't there? They've gotta pick their spots with the refs better.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Bobcats:</div><div class="quote_post">If their is a weakness in this Detroit team.</div> It's also their strength. Yes the tech fouls are bad, but you take that aggression out and you have a lesser team.
Those stats are a bit misleading, as Detroit are only top because Danny Forton isn't logging minutes for us.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Heat4Life:</div><div class="quote_post">What's funny is they're last in the NBA for Fouls Committed and last for Foul Differential.</div> That's amazing. They must be setting a record for whining/foul called ratio.
And most of the calls teams get are bail-out calls which most of the time are good defensive plays/blocks. No calls are also something that doesn't show up on the boxscores. They never seem to go both ways either. It doesn't help when you have Sheed on your team, he has a bad history with the refs and most of the time the refs pick on him when it comes to what he does on the floor. Pistons as a team run on emotion and sometimes they go over the top due to what is happening through each game.
