    Entertaining and pretty straight-forward....

The Cowboys cut starter Quincy Carter in training camp and are going with 18-year veteran Vinny Testaverde at the helm. Before the Cowboys opened training camp, there was talk of how the team could or couldn't win with the inconsistent Quincy Carter at quarterback. Now, there's talk about how the Cowboys can or can't win without Carter. It's all about perspective.
Well, the reasons the Cowboys will make the playoffs start with Testaverde, whose experience and knowledge of the offense should allow the Cowboys to be more explosive and more efficient on offense in 2004. Try these 10 reasons:

    1. The second year

Bill Parcells always makes the playoffs in his second season with a team. He did it with the New York Giants, New England Patriots and New York Jets. Why would it be different this time? Parcells' teams have added at least three more wins in each previous stop. That isn't going to happen, but the playoffs should.

    2. Not one and done

The Cowboys don't have a history of being one-hit wonders. When they make the playoffs, they usually stay awhile. The only time the Cowboys failed to make the playoffs in back-to-back years was when they went 7-9 in 1986 after going 10-6 in 1985. But that was the beginning of the end. The Cowboys would not make the playoffs again until 1991.

    3. Keyshawn Johnson

In Johnson, the Cowboys finally have the go-to receiver they have been looking for since Michael Irvin left. He makes the offense better. Therefore, the team should be better.

    4. The offensive line

The line was so bad in 2002 that last season's patchwork unit looked like an upgrade. This is 2004; an upgrade has been achieved. Every player in the starting lineup is someone the Cowboys want to be there, rather than a fill-in.

    5. Larry Allen

Somewhat of a repeat of #4, but that Pro Bowl guard Larry Allen is going to be Pro Bowl guard Larry Allen again can't be understated. He was a shell of his former dominant self last season. Now that he's back in shape, Allen is going to form an impressive tandem with Pro Bowl tackle Flozell Adams on the left side.

    6. The running game

It's the foundation of championship teams and the Cowboys finally have one again. They made the playoffs last year with Troy Hambrick getting yards one at a time. Eddie George and Julius Jones should be a dynamic thunder and lightning combination. Neither will be superstarts, but both will be a productive upgrade.

    7. Big D

The Cowboys had the No. 1 defense in the league last year (on some standards), and the unit will be better in 2004. Defensive end Marcellus Wiley will improve the pass rush, which should result in more sacks and more turnovers.

    8. Hard work

It's all about conditioning and preparation. The teams that work the hardest in the preseason will be present in the postseason. At last check, the Cowboys were the only team in the league that consistently worked out twice a day during training camp.

    9. A second season

Players in their second season with Parcells tend make a significant jump in performance. The NFL is about to find out about defensive tackle Daleroy Stewart, linebacker Bradie James and defensive end Kenyon Coleman.

    10. Keeping his mouth shut

Because owner Jerry Jones won't predict it. Bold preseason predictions of playoffs, 10-win seasons and Super Bowls from Jones have been met with horrifying results in recent years. Last season, he kept his mouth closed and preached patience. Jones, confident and optimistic as ever, has not said a peep about the playoffs in 2004. That's a good thing.

Keyshawn should fill a hole for Dallas just like Philly hopes Owens should do for them. Different whole, but both beneficial. Both can be potential cancers, but Keyshawn likes Parcells. It is a different situation.

Vinny's talent and reliability are much better than Quincy Carter's. Sure, he is 40 and can be injured...but much like Jerry Rice...they both work out like madmen and their bodies seem to hold out much better than people a lot younger than them.

Cowboys and Eagles are somewhat similar. Kearse can be injury prone and Owens can be a cancer. But both should be upgrades over what they had. Same with Dallas.

keyshaun likes parcells, and vinny(he said on ESPN, vinnys the only qb he ever let yell at him) and TO likes mcnabb and AR and basically the whole philly team.
i said keyshaun is a cancer to dallas so you would say he likes tuna and is happy, it was reverse psycology on my part.

case closed, either 1 bringing down the team is unlikely.

Reverse psychology? What are you smoking? If you just wanted me to say that TO won't bring the Eagles down...fine. I never said he would bring them down in the first place....so don't hang your PhD on the wall yet. Reverse psychology is getting someone to do something they wouldn't normally do. I don't think that applies in this case genius [IMG]. I already said in a previous post that the cases were similar.

I have no idea what will happen. It may work for Owens - it may not. But the difference is...Keyshawn has been in this situation before. Owens thinks he is happy....but he doesn't know because he hasn't played a season with McNabb and AR. Doesn't mean Keyshawn will be happy the second time around either.

I would be worried about the twice a day workouts. Most teams find that if they play their players too hard in the preseason they lose their legs towards the end of the season.

Its not always that way, but something to be mindful of.

i just dont like Vinny Testeverde as the QB, i really dont. if they kept Quincy, i would expect them to get a wild card, another 10 win season, but not with vinny

I agree with this and your Eagle comment. I certainly don't see Dallas winning the division over the Eagles. They really weren't a playoff team last year and certainly not a 10 win team. They have a better team this year and are still a bubble playoff team that should be in the 9-10 win area.....but like last year, coaching is going to have to win 1 or 2 of those games for them.
