The intent was to overturn marriage equality in the state, hoping for a test case the far right political activists who comprise Supremacist Court majority can use to revoke equality nationwide. They were just sort of dumb.
I get that the religious right believes that marriage should only be between a man and a woman but not everyone believes that. They shouldn't push that on others via creating inequitable laws.
Whoaaaa. Just when I think it can't get worse, incest is thrown in? Have you suddenly had an influx of people from Alabama?
It's bills like this that would make me embarrassed to say I'm from Tennessee, or that I live in Tennessee. Thank god my relatives wised up and moved out of that dumpster fire of a state 100+ years ago.
True, it's worse in Alabama. Many of the the family trees there look something akin to a telephone pole.
I joke about a lot of things but never about another member in here unless the recipient knows I mean it in good jest.
I wonder what Tennessee residents think of this. Are they looking forward to being able to allow their citizens to marry children? Are they supporting their local party politicians on this one? If only we had someone living in Tenneseee on this forum that proudly says they are conservative.....
Here's a question: if conservatives object to same sex marriage, and don't believe trans people are real, does that mean a trans woman could marry a born woman and that would be kosher? Or does a trans woman suddenly become a "real" woman for them in that scenario? Wouldn't it be easier to just mind your own business?
