Tevez Confident Of Manchester United Stay

The bullish forward's future has long been the subject of speculation, but his mind seems to already be made up...

The transfer of Carlos Tevez from Corinthians to West Ham United was controversial enough in itself. Something wasn't right. One of the most promising forwards in the world - along with his compatriot and one of the most promising midfielders, Javier Mascherano - transfered to a lower-mid table Premier League side.

They could have more or less had their pick of any of Europe's big guns, and indeed there did prove to be something suspicious about the transfers, as it was revealed the players, with Tevez in particular having played a huge role in helping the Hammers avoid relegation, were still owned by MSI (Media Sports Investment).

The London club were fined and Liverpool swooped for Mascherano, and their rivals Manchester United came in for Tevez. While Liverpool had to pay over £18 million to land the defensive midfielder, it is rumoured the Red Devils will have to almost double that to land Carlitos.

This has been a point of contention. Sir Alex Ferguson has been quoted as saying he would not be paying such a large amount of money for the player, and the fact he even controversially fell out of favour in team selection this season led many to believe he would be leaving Old Trafford, with Real Madrid his most likely suitors.

However, Sir Alex and the player himself have only ever publicly stated that he will be staying. Tevez today has reiterated this desire. "I remain relaxed and so are the club," he declared. “We have been talking about it and everything is very advanced, as a consequence I think it will be sorted soon. I feel respected by my team-mates and by the technical staff.”

Of the battle to get into the starting line-up, he said: "I think it’s part of my life. Everywhere I have been I had to fight and it ended up with titles. I think that God tests me, not each year, but each month. And at the end of the day, winning league titles makes me feel great.

"The only club I didn’t win any title with was West Ham, but people told me, regarding the way we escaped, that it was like winning one. I can’t explain how happy I am when I win a title after a massive fight. I prefer it this way.

"That’s the story of my life: I have overcome obstacles since I was a kid. And right now I’m not going to change: I’m at the best club in the world and fighting for your position is normal.”
