Texans to add power running back?

After swinging and missing on Cedric Benson, the Houston Texans are left with a hole to fill with the remaining free agents or the draft: a power-rushing complement to the speedy Steve Slaton. According to what coach Gary Kubiak has told the Houston Chronicle, the team will not use their first pick on offense, but could use a later selection to fill that need.

Amongst the free agents still available, Rudi Johnson and Deuce McAllister are likely the best the Texans will be able to find, and after their failed experiment with Ahman Green, they are unlikely to travel down the veteran road again in search of rushing production. Depending on where the team decides to use a pick on a running back, they could be in the mix for Alabama's Glen Coffee, N.C. State's Andre Brown or Michigan State's Javon Ringer, the latter of whom led the nation in rushing touchdowns, was second in rushing yards and had 92 more carries than any other player in college football in 2008. Ringer could clearly be a durable complement to the mercurial Slaton, and will likely slip to the third round.
