"Texans vice president of communications Tony Wyllie has been hired by the Washington Redskins as a senior vice president.

Wyllie, a Houston native who has been with the Texans since 2000, is replacing Karl Swanson, the Redskins' long-time senior vice president who oversaw the communications department.

Wyllie's primary responsibility will be public relations and communications.

Director of public relations Kevin Cooper will oversee the Texans' media relations department.

"We wish Tony the very best," Texans president Jamey Rootes said Tuesday. "He's built some great relationships among the media as well as in the community, and he's going to be missed by many."

Wyllie, a Houston native who attended Cy-Fair High School, graduated from Texas Southern and earned an MBA from Rice, was hired from the Tennessee Titans in 2000.Wyllie began his public relations career as a game-day intern for the Oilers and worked as a Chronicle correspondent while in college."
