Texas A&M C.C. Daniels to Test the Waters

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Chris Daniels is going to test himself for the NBA while keeping his eligibility for college.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi coach Ronnie Arrow said he had talked to Daniels Sunday, and the 7-foot center wanted to look at going pro while keeping his last season of eligibility.

If Daniels goes to June's pre-draft camp in Orlando and if he travels to work out in person for any NBA team, he must pay his own expenses. He cannot hire an agent or take money to help with expenses, or he will lose his eligibility.

Should he comply with the rules and decide in the end not to opt for the draft, Daniels would be eligible to return to the Islanders for one more season.

Daniels will not go to April's pre-draft camp in Portsmouth, Va., as it is only for players who have exhausted their eligibility.

Daniels could not be reached for comment, but Arrow provided some insight into Daniels' decision.

"He wants to go to Orlando and see what it's like against guys his own size," Arrow said. "He sort of indicated he thought he would be back, but he wants to test himself and see how he does consistently." </div>
