Kevin Durant, a 6-9 forward rated the No. 2 high school basketball player in the class of 2006 by Rivals.com, has orally committed to Texas and will make it official publicly today, a source close to the situation said Wednesday.

Durant, a Maryland native who attends Oak Hill Academy in Virginia, picked Texas over North Carolina and Connecticut and becomes the highest-profile UT recruit since T.J. Ford and arguably the highest-profile recruit in the program's history.</div>

It's funny; everything I heard suggested that he was on his way to Connecticut or maybe North Carolina, but not many people brought Texas into the conversation. This might be the move that gives Texas the title. Imagine this lineup -

PG - Daniel Gibson - Junior
    SG - P.J. Tucker - Senior
SF - Kevin Durant - Freshman
PF - Mike Williams - Junior
    C - LaMarcus Aldridge - Junior

Then there's always a possibility that C.J. Miles may opt out of the draft and would then be a Sophomore when Durant comes in. Either way, they're looking pretty good for years to come.

I was hearing he was going to UNC or UConn for sure, but he must have seen that those two schools were going to be loaded in 2006 and he might not have got the playing time he wanted. But anyway, Texas is already the favorite headed into 2006 IMO.
