Darren Dreger tweets that the NHL Board of Governors will get an official salary cap projection today during their meeting in Pebble Beach.

Dreger says that the projection is expected to be between $70 million and $71 million.

According to Cap Geek, if the salary cap rises to $70,000,000, the Rangers would have $29.9 million in salary cap space.

As of right now, the Rangers have Rick Nash, Brad Richards, Derek Dorsett, Carl Hagelin, Derek Stepan, JT Miller, Henrik Lundqvist, Cam Talbot, Ryan McDonagh and Marc Staal under contract.

If the Rangers exercise their final compliance buyout on Richards, they would have $36,610,000 in cap space.

This would be great for us if it went back up to 70 mill. Having over 36.5 mill to spend would be awesome. Like we said, this summer is the last shot to re-make this team with Hank in his prime. WE CANNOT FAIL.

Also angers me greatly that last seasons mess even happened. What came out of it? The cap went down to 64 mill for ONE SEASON, and then back up to 70 mill again. Ridiculous really. Did work out for us though as now we can buy Richards out, which is HUGE.

Right now Callahan is really the only definate re-sign candidate, though J. Moore and Stralman should be kept. All the rest, in the words of dopey Michael Kay..CYa!!

I'd keep Brassard as a 3rd line C if (a) he doesn't want a big raise, and (2) we land another C like Stasny for the top 6 so that Brassard stays put on the 3rd line.

I think Lindberg's development thru the end of the year will play a big role in the decision on Brassard.

36 mil is a very nice amount to spend. That being said... who on this UFA really comes here and saves the day?? We also have to keep in mind how often Sather greatly overpays for FA's. Realistically he should be able to pull 3 solid players off this list.

Probably unrealistic that he doesn't resign with the sharks but I wouldn't mind Glen overpaying for Patrick Marleau.

I'd try to get Stasny. He's younger and I don't see the Avs locking up both him and O'Reilly. Ott will be available too, he'd be great for the 4th line. Scoring with some toughness. We could actually make a play for him right now but I'm assuming Sather is already hibernating for the winter. Maybe he can get him over the summer when he wakes up.

Like the idea of getting Ott just hope it would be for a reasonable price. Kind of feel like hes the guy that always gets overpaid. Stastny would be good too ever since the Nash trade we have been a little bit short at center and he would certainly fall into a top six role. Depending on what happens with Girardi we will probably have to bring in a UFA dman as well. Troubling since they all get overpaid. The wise thing to do would be move Girardi for a nice package to add depth. Especially if the next 20 games continue like it is now.

Vrbata is someone with a big frame and shot. Michalek if healthy also. Hainsey is pretty good all around on D.

Vrbata has always been a very underrated player. Not saying I completely advocate this move as hes injured again with Columbus but you'd have to think that Gaborik is going to get nowhere near the 7.5 mil we gave him on his last contract. If he was to be had for say 4.5mil I wouldn't mind seeing him have another go here.

There's always a guy who plays out of his mind during his contract year and then there is the frenzy bidding war for him... looks like that's going to be Steen if the blues cant re-sign him.

We could have over 37.5 mill in cap space. Stastny, Moulson, Ott. That is my wish list.

This is it. This summer will be the last time to do a miny re-build for a long while, and for sure with Hank in his prime. We must do this right.

We cannot have this group make up half our forwards:

Hags - one goal in 15 games.
Pouliot - 3 goals all season.
    Miller - cannot score.
    Dorsett - cannot score.
    Pyatt - cannot score.
    Boyle - cannot score.
    D. Moore - cannot score.

    Kreider/Step/Nash
    Moulson/Stas/Cally
    Hags/Brass/MZA
    Dorsett/Ott/kid or big physical banger

I would flip Miller in a trade with a pick and prospect for either a real good stay at home physical dman OR a proven winger to slide onto line 3.
