I’m 95% we’ll finish the current season (the Orlando bubble is the safest place in America) but how on earth will there be a next season? It’s only 4 months away and COVID-19 won’t be under control by then. The only way to do it is with a bubble again and I can’t imagine the players being ok with that. What do you guys think? What am I missing?

Might consider moving start date out to Jan?

Do you think things will change by January? A vaccine? Nothing on Broadway is opening til April.

We'll know how the MLB and NFL did hy then. If those worked, then there's no reason the NBA couldn't.

There's also 3x as many players and their schedule is 2x-3x more condensed.

Im not sure the NBA will use them as a guidline for the very reason you pointed out.

You were very cynical about the bubble too.

Not as a guideline, simply saying we'll have more of an idea.

I was. And I said I would gladly eat crow if im wrong.

Was disappointing to see so many people here freak out about my cynisism though...Not you. KS. DCPL, etc. Treated me as if I nuked every thread on the site or something.

Anyhow, Im still somewhat cynical, though I have come to see I might very well be wrong in the end.

Being that we are under the Trump administration, the pandemic is no better than it was in March (Although Trump and his goons would like you to think where far better off. We're really not.) I don't think we'll have control over the pandemic until earliest next spring. I just don't have faith in the Trump administration. It's a circus act! If your hoping for a next season they might have to do it again in a bubble if it continues to work. Otherwise, don't hold your breath!

First, I don't think MLB and NFL are going to work out but even if they do, the NBA is entirely different ballgame since it's a bunch of people close to each other indoors.

Exactly. Unless there's another bubble, they can't do another season til Spring at earliest. Based on what I'm reading.

This is what I'm talking about. But how do the players feel about not being around their families or having a social life for 5 months? Not to mention the TV announcers, refs, staff, etc. Maybe they could do a 2 month bubble and then give everyone a month off before bubbling again to finish what would likely be a shortened season? If the players want their money, they'd have to sacrifice a lot. But this is the world we live in.

Ya I wouldn't be surprised if they Maybe shorten the season. Maybe next year will be the time the NBA could try something new with the playoffs?

I would love for the NBA to at least get rid of the damn conferences. I really thought they were going to do try it this time. Maybe next year?

If they do a bubble again, they could do away with conferences from the getgo since there are no travel concerns.

I don't know if the league would be cool with getting rid of the history of the Eastern and Western Conferences for one very strange season, only to go back to more regional schedules (basically conferences) again a season later due to travel time and expenses, just because they can in a bubble. Conferences also have to do with trying to insure more interest from the East coast and West coast when it comes to the playoffs and especially the finals. I know that some of these views are seen as antiquated but if they were ever going to deregionalize it would be right now. They obviously still have concerns over long term viability and possibly short term geographic ratings issues and remember in a bubble tv revenue is almost all of the revenue.
