Yeah I got some vids of those days here at home...juss wanderin what yall thought of those days...I got one memory of a pacer that played for the ABA...his name was Darnell Hillman (I actually met him and sat at a pacer game with him a couple years ago) but back during the ABA he was tested that he couldnt touch the top of the backboard and he goes "if u put a hundred dollar bill up there ill get it" and of course he got it
I wasn't even born when the ABA folded, and I've only seen a couple of games on ESPN classic, but I have read a lot about it and believe it was a totally inferior league to the NBA. yes it gave the NBA a run for its money for a few years, but the ABA constantly had teams folding or moving. there was no defense what so ever, and a lot of the players proved they couldn't make it in the NBA.
Yeah but if u look u got all the flash n stuff now that was actually created baxck then...and does it look like theres much defense nowadays...I mean cmon games r gettin up to 120-130....thats pretty crazy...and u got dr. j and a bunch of them guys that made it to the nba and teams moved because they started off in cities that were sh*t...and then they got better n moved to better cities
games are going into the 130 range because the fact that each team shoots 9,000 free throws. teams now days try to play defense its just the rules have pretty much banned defense.
The aba was a classic.A free-spirited competitive league with innotive ideas, cool styles, and eccentric players. We get the all star weekend from the ABA, the 3 line from the nba, the new era of athletic, flashy players from the ABA.The red, white, and blue ball is a classic. Many great players layed in the aba.George McGiniss, Mel Daniels, Jerry West (I believe), Moses Malone, and of course the famous Dr. J.I wish the ABA still existed.

It was popular because much of the general audience would rather see bright colors and flashy moves than real basketball.

What does that even mean?
it means that players went out and did what they felt like doin instead of a coach crackin down on them and the players responded like that...they actually played the game with pride

The ABA was closer to the NBA than the AFL is to the NFL. The ABA was more about flash than sustance, but it did effect the NBA a lot. I think without the ABA the great basketball seen from 1980 on wouldn't have exsisted.
