First off, I live in Denver. But still Portland fan at heart. The Blazers front office messed this one up big time. The trade, if it goes through as I've most recently read it, was essentially Fernandez for Hamilton, and then Andre and Hamilton for Felton. It would be nicer if we somehow kept Hamilton. In any case, the silent untold part of the trade, if what someone said earlier is true and not speculation, is that Denver said to not draft Faried in order to make this trade happen. That essentially means we also swapped picks with Denver to make the trade go through. If Denver really wanted Faried, and we could have found out, we should have just drafted him and seen what Denver wanted to do. I bet we could have sent Andre and Faried for Felton and the #22. It's leverage that we wasted by not forcing a trade. KP would have done that. In fact he did do it when we drafted Randy Foye to mess up a trade between the Wolves and Rockets and forced the Wolves to trade us Roy instead of them shipping him to Houston for Foye and Luther Head (they assumed we would just take Gay instead of doing what we did). It makes matters worse that they're a division rival, and that I think we would all love to watch Faried hustle on the 2nd unit. Even if it prevented the Felton trade from going down...so what. Andre had a big expiring contract that can be used in a mid-season swap. There are always opportunities, look at how the Camby trade panned out for us. Maybe the Suns decide to completely blow up and offer Nash for picks and a handful of young players. The move was out of desperation to attempt to improve, although anything we did was pretty much lateral if not backward (we did improve our outside shooting at the PG spot but meh). That's weak, and it's the first draft in a long time that I can remember where I watch and wasn't excited, but really disappointed. The last few haven't been good, but this was really like wtf. That's enough ranting for now....I'm sure I'll get to watch lots of good press about Faried here in Denver to annoy the shit out of me for the next few years.
well, the deal was likely done by the time the pick came up...cant really do stuff like that, but yeah, we shouldnt have agreed to the deal in the first place
It made too much sense for the Blazers to take Faried at that spot. But ... whatever. No one will outhustle Denver it seems like.
They DID have a GM. Chad Buchanan is acting GM. Should they have got a new GM? I guess so, given the way today turned out. Ed O.
