I asked Wes Mathews in a fan question forum last season who the best player on the bench was that we rarely got to see and he said Victor. He also said Victor can shoot way better than fans think he can, he just hasn't had the minutes. Also said Victor is one of the better off the ball players we have, sets screens, high IQ player. I really like his game and think his offense will come with confidence and more minutes. He gets dissed alot by fans and I thought I'd give him a shoutout now that we're at 15 roster spots filled.Anybody else think he's a keeper?
Re: The case for keeping Viictor Claver I like Claver, but my take is that Stotts hates him. I've seen Stotts empty the bench, and still not play Claver.
Re: The case for keeping Viictor Claver Victor needs confidence. IMO, he has the highest basketball IQ on our team, and it's not even close.
Re: The case for keeping Viictor Claver How can I edit the thread title?..I stuttered on the i there.
Re: The case for keeping Viictor Claver I would love for Victor to get more playing time as well. This may be the year all of those starting minutes bite us and Stott is forced to use the bench.
Re: The case for keeping Viictor Claver Fixed it for you. Generally, though, I believe if you just edit your opening post of the thread and change the title, it'll change the title of the whole thread.
Claver is a high IQ player as you suggested and a good defensive player. Claver>Leonard That's good enough for me.
If Claver could shoot, I would take him over Wright anyday. He is a solid defender, good passer, the high BBIQ, can handle a little, can play multiple positions....if he could only hit the broad side of a barn. His shot looks good, good arc, nice rotation....it just doesn't go in.
I think it would help if he logged enough minutes to break a sweat. When we signed him I checked out some film on his play in Spain and he shot really well. Wes says he shoots well in practice so he has the skill. Hope he works on it before the next tip off. Maybe hire Mark Price or someone to work with him. Even without much offense, he gives us defense and sets such good screens that he helps us that way. We need smart defenders on the 2nd unit and he's all that
Victor seems to be one of those guys that is a great practice shooter but doesn't do it in games. He's been a terrible shooter in games since he's been here. But he does have some good qualities, good combo of size and athletisism, seems to play defense with intelligence and enthusiasm. I think he was just in no man's land. Not a good enough shooter/ball handler to be a 3, not an inside for like T-Rob to get minutes at 4, not really a center. At times last year I wondered why Stotts didn't give him more of a chance though.
Yep. Yep. Leonard's the next to go, not Claver. But the GM and Coach should get ambitious about Claver. Change his body. He's a PF in height and shooting, so make him one in strength. He's a SF in fluid movement, but that will have to go. What's ruining his career is that management is content with his being a tweener.
Depends what you could get for him or for anyone else for that matter. If Stotts isn't going to use him but someone offers a player that Stotts feels can produce in his rotation, you make the deal. I think Claver can play. He does everything but score and it looks like he has the tools to be effective in that regard but is lacking confidence of something. But it really doesn't matter what I think. It's what Stotts and Olshey think. And you might find more of a market out there for Claver than Leonard right now.
