I saw it over the weekend. I thought it was pretty good. My dad told me he read something about it being based on a true story and the guy that Jack Nicholson(sp?) played is still alive. :-o Anways...I recommend this movie.SPOILERSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSWasn't it kind of strange and unexpected how almost every main character was shot or killed in some way? l enjoyed the surprise, a little different than the usual happy ending which is good.
Yeah greattt movie lovedddddd itThe movie was just amazing the ending though with Mark Wahlberg killing Matt Damon was kind of iffy I mean how did he find out I'm guessing the letter his wife opened?

It's a remake of the Asian film called Infernal Affairs. And that's not a true story.I do love this movie.Solid acting all around, with the bit characters as well.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The movie was just amazing the ending though with Mark Wahlberg killing Matt Damon was kind of iffy I mean how did he find out I'm guessing the letter his wife opened?</div>Good question, I just took it from the elevator scene where Costigan(Leo) told Brown(Anderson) if he contacted Dignam(Walberg) and they were meeting him at the bottom. But Dignam never was present and we know what happens at the bottom. I take it he never showed up but knew from the contact who the rat was. There's another theory Dignam was a rat and that's how he knew. Too complicated imo.The endings great though, Sullivan is the final rat(barring the Dignam/rat theory)to be killed and our last image is a rat going across the railing. Scorcese's great at detail.
Everything about this movie was perfect for me. Acting was great, such a great chosen cast. The plot was great. Im glad this movie has gotten the respcet it deserves.I watched it twice. The same day, lol. It took like half my day
Since were in The Departed discussion, anyone read about the sequel plans. Walberg stated they might do another one with him returning, and De Niro(playing a senator), Joe Pesci(new Police Chief) entering the cast.Scorsese back with Pesci/De Niro has to leave people salivating.
I also loved the movie. This is the way I think Dignam(Walberg) knew it was Sullivan (Damon) in the end. Costigan(Leo) gave Sullivan's wife a envelope with info in it. Told here to open it if he died or if he told here to. It probably had something about contacting Dignam and giving him who the rat was and everything. Now she probably didnt know he would go out and kill Sullivan, but thats what happened. I personally liked how just about everyone died in the end. Not many movies like that. My grandma was dissapointed that the "good" guy didnt get the girl and win in the end, but I liked how it ended. :happy0144: One of the better movies that I've seen recently.EDIT:Also, Brad Pitt was signed on for this movie, but when Babel came up, he did that enstead. He's actaully one of the producers of the movie. What role would you of wanted Pitt to play if he'd been more envolved? I think he could of been a real good Dignam or Sullivan. Not saying Walberg or Damon werent good, just saying Pitt would of gave an equal or better performance. I just cant see Pitt playing Costigan.

Some great actors with a great director, I bet it would be just as good if not better.

I liked Wahlberg, Damon and Leo in their respective roles and I couldn't really see Pitt being some mob boss' lackey.

While I didn't think The Departed was flawless, it was a real good film on the brink of greatness.
