Walton's hyperbole made him great. He reminded me a lot of Howard Cosell actually. He, like Dick Vitale have a lot of passion for the game, and life itself, and that's refreshing to me.

Not the greatest broadcaster in the HISTORY of basketball, but the greatest broadcaster in the HISTORY of Western Civilization.

I don't think he said any more sarcastic things about the Blazers than he did about every other team. As a broadcaster, he treated all teams about the same, with one exception. He was over-impressed with his hometown Lakers--even before that when he played for the Celtics.

It's hard to find a highly intelligent former player, much less one who was league MVP. Years ago I watched Russell, Chamberlain, Oscar, etc. and they all sucked except Rick Barry. Barry's continuing absence is a real loss and I miss him. Networks don't even try to use former stars anymore. Walton and Barry are the only ones smart enough.

So when you criticize Walton, suggest an alternative who won't bore us with nothing to say, like retired stars did in the past. Your suggestion must talk fast (an anti-Barkley) and quickly analyze what went wrong in plays.

Ridiculous. Most just don't want to get into play-by-play commentary. Some do like Reggie Miller, Greg Anthony, or Kenny Smith.

Walton is a prick to the Blazers organization, has held a grudge and has taken it out constantly throughout the years on national television by being an impartial observer.

He is there for the entertainment. Since I was not around for the glory days/traitor days/etc... - I do not really care for him as a Blazer or hate him as a deserter. I always found him entertaining....

...because they can't talk for 2 hours without a script. I see no grudge, but I see a grudge from a few in Portland.

I thought he analyzed plays faster than other color men and more thoroughly than the main voice guy. I have to admit he was sometimes verbose and too relaxed. Sometimes I'd say, shut up. But find me another MVP who can talk. They're all scared, dumb, or both.
