    Greatest Point Guard

Interesting debate riot, however I would take Kidd in his prime over Stockton in his prime. I know many will not agree, but Kidd has got to be one of the top point guards ever, IMO.

Stockton in his Prime was Way better than Kidd. It may not show that stat wise but i think he was a better defender and a better passer. but I do think Kidd sees the Floor better.

Jason Kidd was better than Stockton last year no matter how many mormons(sp?) think Differently

I think you might have misunderstood my post, beacause I agree with you. I would take Kidd over Stockton anyday (prime-wise).

Utah people are so close minded when it comes to John Stockton. Yeah, he got a lot of assists, so what? When you play with someone (Malone) for 18 years, you damn well better have some chemistry with them. Not to hate on his acheivement, but people out here are unwilling to realize that it's rare nowadays for a player to spend their whole career on one team.

Stockton was fortunate, and a great pg. But it was a different era, and he was lucky enough to have a constant environment (coach included).

I really think you are not thinking about Stockton on Defense. In his Prime he could stop any PG(Except maybe Payton)

So very true. I'm mormon, but smart enough to see otherwise (and yeah, you spelled it right  ).

Frankly Stockton and Malone are the only thing that Utah people have to take pride in NBA-wise(with the exceptions of Mark Madsen and Sean Bradley [IMG] )

There's a "Stockton to Malone Honda" out here, lol.

    What about

Andre Miller(he went to college in Utah)

    anyway.

I think Oscar Robertson is a top 5 player of all time. Any thoughts on that.

*edit* the comment below was made in response to a statement by another user, not you J-mac. Clearly that user's post was deleted (for good reason).

There's a thin line between funny and stupid.

    JKidd is better than Stockton...

i mean...Stockton had a Malone rolling from the pick and roll almost all the time...you have to give credit to Malone for the assists...he's a great finisher that's why...

Why should Kidd not be in the same class as Stockton and Magic Johnson?

I never said not in the same class....I said Kidd being better than Stockton is ludicrous....I think Kidd is up there atleast in the upper echelon of PG's all-time, but better than the top three (Big O, Stockton, Magic) is ludicrous...

There is no way that kidd is better than Stockton. Stockton had less weapons and led his team to the finals and almost be the Bulls(when they had jordan) He is also a better defenser one on one. He has a better Jumper and is a better Passer. The only thing I think Kidd does better than Stockton is he sees the Floor a lot better when he is Running up the court with Kenyon Martin and Richard Jefferson(sp?). They are really two different types of point guards. Stockton is a Half court Point guard and Kidd is a full Court Point Guard.

Both players, 2 finals appearances, that stat should stick out the most. I personally would rather have Kidd, I love the size advantage that he has over Stockton. Of course John desreves more praise for having played longer, but there is nothing wrong with me saying who I would personally take over who...its another good thing seeing that I am not alone. Who started this "who is better than who" thing? All I stated was I would take Kidd for my style of play.

let's say that Kidd gets a large number of his assists on the break...don't you know how hard it is? first, he'll get the rebound (which he is way better than Stockton) while he is in the air, you can almost see his feet running ahead of him while he's still on the air...Richardson on the right wing...K-Mart on the right...Kittles trailing...then he'll lob an alley-oop pass to a well picked recipient (over the outstretched arms of a defender)...crowd goes wild...Nets are pumped up...the D is forced to run...

and JKidd can also run the offense using the half-court...he's pretty darn good at it...so that makes him lethal on the break...and on the set-up play...

Stockton had Malone...Kidd has a bunch of 1st-3rd year players who's inconsistent and playing for a lottery team...but still, they made it to the finals...basically the PG runs the team...and a PG turned a lottery team to a finalist, then you are one hell of a PG...

    Lets clear this up AGAIN..

Jason Kidd is argubly the greatest point guard in the game today, and will be with the 2 greats when its time for him to retire.

Magic and Stockton are argubly the best of all time, when kidd retires it will be those three most talked about in point guards.
