How many fans are there out there? I'm not going to lie, I hadn't really paid much attention to these guys b/c I didn't know most of their songs I listened to was theirs. Anyways their newest album "The Black and White Album" (from 2007) has to be one of the best CD's I've heard in a long time. Watching a few of their live performances online, they look like they're a fun band to see live. Would I be crazy to say they're quite possibly the best band of this generation in terms of rock?

I'll have to check them out. I can't at work though.

Yeah, that's what I was going for, not just their genre of rock but all of rock in general.

I've listened to them, and they aren't even close to the best. Thrice, Brand New right there have made better albums overall and throughout the genre, and that's without even going deep into it. So, I'd say, yes, you are crazy.

I guess it could just be preference, but just having good music is a completely different game in terms of being the best. To be top notch, you have to be fun to watch live or have a stage preference. I've seen Thrice live @ the Warped Tour and they were definitely not someone to send home about. On the other hand, a band like The Hives are such international hits that they could come to the US and sell out arenas. The difference between bigs bands and good bands is live performance, and that's the difference between selling out moderate venues and selling out arenas/stadiums.

Which is why Grateful Dead were such a hit (although I am not a fan).

He's saying that The Hives are a good bad all-round. Not only just their consistency of releasing big songs, but the fact that they are crowd pleaser's.
