The "I'm Bored" WTF happened to our draft rights to Mladen Sekularac? thread

... and who really cares? But the author who wrote the article stopped by this forum last season has some idea. For awhile in Summer League, I thought that the 6'4 shooting guard Melkovic was actually Mladen Sekularac, until I read the rosters.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Mladen Sekularac. Yes, he actually exists. Despite it being ?decision day?, which means high school, college, and international players alike must decide whether or not to withdraw from the draft, we go far east with this one.

Sekularac?s journey began with Yugoslavia?s youth teams, until he ended up signing with FMP Zeleznik Belgrade for the 1997-98 season. He spent five years with Zeleznik, slowly earning minutes ? and eventually points. The 6′8″ SG/SF went from averaging 1.6 points in 25 games during the 97-98 season to 17.4 points in 21 games during the 01-02 season. In his final season with Zeleznik, Sekularac shot 54.1%, and 31.2% from downtown.

In 2002, Sekularac declared for the NBA draft for the third time. Each of the prior two times, contract buyout issues combined with a lack of interest forced him out. By late June, he opted to stay in the NBA draft, despite not getting a promise in the first round ? which most international players seek to stay in the mix. Sekularac slipped on draft day, dropping to the 2nd round, and the Mavericks eventually took him with the #55 pick.

He is alive and kicking [IMG]
Last week he made 35 in an exhibition game for Antwerp in Belgium. He is new in Begium, so I will tell you within some months wether he has some potential or not. He is not that old yet (1981).
