What do you guys think of Jerry Reinsdorf as an owner? I will be the first to say I always hated the thought of multiple sports team owners. A lot of times there are situations where a person buys a basketball team, even though he has no interest in basketball, simply to make money (I.E. Snider from the 76ers). In these cases the team in which the owner is least concerned about often fades into obscurity for a decade, or two, before the owner is finally forced to sell the franchise or make moves. This might have been the case in Chicago had it not been for the legend Michael Jordan. Now Jerry Reinsdorf has shown he is committed to winning more championships in basketball, but this is the same guy who was quoted as saying he would trade away all six of the Bulls championships for his one White Sox title. So a lot of people where rubbed the wrong way by that. I believe a big part of his success over these last few years has been more luck. He ran into incredible luck when he managed to have Michael Jordan slip to number three in the draft. He has had some great personnel in the front office to help him run the franchise as well. Krause was a great front office person for us, for a long time. He gets a lot of heat from people, because people tend to blame him for prematurely breaking up the championship Bulls team. However, his moves during the dynasty era where great. Now a days post Krause era he has the incredible mind of John Paxson by his side, as well as the defensive guru known as Scott Skiles. Reinsdorf was never really a hands on owner. If he was I guarantee you we could have kept the dynasty going for at least two more years. I still think we could have convinced Jordan to put off retirement for a few years. Anyway, Reinsdorf has never been a Donald Sterling type owner he has shown a commitment to winning, and bringing in the right front office personnel to guide him in building a contending team. Do I think he is the ideal owner? No, the fact that he owns the Bulls, which is one of the three major markets has often times covered up for his ignorance. The fact that players want to play for us makes his life a whole lot easier. Do I think he would be winning if he were the owner of the Raptors, Magic, or Timberwolves? Probably not. However, I can?t really criticize him since the team has won six championships, and is now back in championship contention. So I pose the question to you do you think he is a good owner? Why or why not? Do you contribute the success in the 90?s to him or the personnel he had around him? And do you think our resurgence should be credited to him for bringing in Paxson and Skiles? Or exclusively to Paxson and Skiles for building the roster they did?
Damn man sometimes I wonder how you're not actually 50 instead of in your teens. Anyway, in my opinion Jerry is a good owner because he is hands off and doesn't accept all the glory for the championships (as far as I know). He is the owner of a team that was one of the greatest sports teams around, one of the greatest sports person around (Jordan), he had great help from Krause and now Paxson. But I think the key to a good owner is to sit back and listen to the GMs, the people they hire to get the players needed to win games and that is what Reinsdorf does. He doesn't interfere in the day to day routine of the players, doesn't tell them what to do. He leaves that upto the Coaches. And that is what I think makes a good owner, one who can hire the right people to win them championships and have a hands off approach. I do think it is fine for an owner to intervene when results are not coming his or her way, but not when the teams are young or rebuilding. Owners who pay the money to the players, who are not tight with their money and won't spend it at all. What is the point of owning a team when you won't pay the money to get the players in. It is simple common sense that no one can win without great players and you have to pay great players money. For his current success and the success in the 90s, he does deserve some credit for it because he hired the people who got the team together and he paid out the money to keep those players. He made the right call on Skiles and Jackson.
Someone said he would rather have 1 world series ring (White Sox) then any of his NBA Finals rings... *Coming from a Cubs fan*
