<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> NEW YORK (Ticker) - After the San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks met in the playoffs a round earlier than they should have, the NBA decided to do something about it.
The NBA Board of Governors on Wednesday approved several rule changes for the 2006-07 season, including an alteration of its playoff seeding system.
This past season, Southwest Division rivals San Antonio and Dallas had the best records in the Western Conference. However, they were seeded first and fourth, respectively, for the playoffs because league rules mandated division champions automatically receive the top three seeds in each conference.

This ain't any good either. Can a division winner with the 9th best overall record in the conference make the playoffs? NBA needs to go back to having 4 divisions.

So its like the top three division leaders get home advantage and the fourth one with the highest record also gets it? right?

NBA needs to go back to having 4 divisions instead of this mess.

Well, it's a good thing they're doing something about that problem. But yeah, I'm with DallasDude, that they need to go back to the old division format.

The division format is still messed up. I don't think the Nuggets should have gotten a top four seed last year just for winning that division with a 44-38 record. Yeah sure, they might not get homecourt advantage in the first round either way, but usually, higher seeds have an easier road to the finals.
