The NBA's new player-coach era

    It is interesting that among the teams with coaching vacancies, the most active in addressing those vacancies have been the 76ers and Hornets.

    Then again, perhaps it is not coincidental, considering Philadelphia and New Orleans are on the sidelines in the free agency game, and therefore don’t have any special constituencies to consider.

    But the Clippers, Nets and Bulls?

    Those decisions could drag all the way into free agency.

    Why?

    Because Pat Riley injected that element into the equation this week.

    It is why LeBron ally John Calipari has been linked to the Bulls, why Dwyane Wade college coach Tom Crean could surface as a Chicago prospect, and why the Heat’s coaching situation appears a bit less settled than after Erik Spoelstra completed a 47-35 season that placed the Heat fifth in the Eastern Conference.
