After the 1948 season the Chicago Bears gave up on a young blonde Texan QB in favor Sid Luckman, an old veteran at the end of his career. The Lions aquired Bobby Layne the "Blonde Bomber" from George Halas and he led Detroit to three World Championships in his Hall of Fame career. I believe history repeats itself. Let's hope Mike Martz can help turn our new blonde Texan QB Josh McCown, into our new Blonde Bomber! GO LIONS!!!!!!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Giantsfan1)</div><div class='quotemain'>he couldnt start for Arizona.....</div> And Bobby Layne couldn't start for the Bears, Johnny Unitas couldn't start for the Steelers, Brett Favre couldn't start for the Falcons, Jake Delhomme couldn't start for the Saints. So what's your point?
o c'mon give me a break lol everyone can say that.... Patrick Ramsey can be the next Joe Namath, lets hope it happens

I think your gonna be seeing the Bald Bomber there first, I think Kitna will most likely start for them this year or else why would he sign with them for a back up spot he could of had with the Bengals?

Jake Delhomme is the only one, of the QBs mentioned, that played with his first team, as long as McCown played for the Cardinals, however Delhomme only threw about 85 passes compared to McCown's 850 attempts. The point is that Josh McCown was given an opportunity to be "the man" in Arizona and failed. When I compare McCown's numbers to Joey Harrington's, I really don't see how McCown can even be seen as an upgrade.

I think McCown and Kitna are brought in to have copetition throughout traning camp. I also think Dan Orlskey from UCONN could be the future of the Lions if Martz can work his magic.

There is no excuse for his failure other than he wasnt good enough. He will fail in detroit. Kitna may suceed, but those WR have to come around

(Which means he had to have some pretty crappy games to counter the good games.) Of course, you failed to mention that McCown threw three interceptions, in one of those games, against the Panthers and they lost the game, but hey McCown threw for a lot of yards!!! Of course, in the next two games, he completed just under 50% of his passes and barely 300 yards. I don't know who K.C. Joyner is and I could care less what he has to say. I just don't see Josh McCown being an upgrade. I could be wrong, but I doubt it. As far as Matt Millen goes, he needs to hit one out of the ballpark because he hasn't done anything but suck since he's become the Lions' GM.

Mark it down: McCown will be one of the better signings of the 2006 free-agency class. He's experienced enough to win games right away, but young enough, with enough upside to still develop into considerably more than he is today. And two years' working with Martz -- who helped make Kurt Warner, Trent Green and Marc Bulger into NFL stars -- is a gift any young quarterback would relish.</div> http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writ...udgments/1.html
Well, if it is SI then it must be true. I am calling tags. . .or his successor and having them start engraving his name on MVP trophy.

Here's another smart guy, how bout those Bear's QB's? LMAO! <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE ("Pat Kirwin of NFL.com)</div><div class='quotemain'>After one week of free agency, we have witnessed 81 players switch teams, which is a very high rate of turnover. MY FAVORITE SIGNINGS SO FAR It's not really a case of which team got a player for less money than I thought they would have to spend, or some superstar who is going to change a team overnight (because that rarely happens), but for me it is more about bringing something special to an organization that possibly no other player could have done at this time. With that in mind, here are four signings that jumped out at me after one week of action and why. 1. Joe Jurevicius, WR, Cleveland Browns: Jurevicius has been underrated his whole career and the Browns finally see him for his true worth. He is an outstanding No. 2 receiver and for the two young Browns, he will be a big influence on how they grow as professionals. Players from Tampa Bay and Seattle have told me he has that little extra dimension to him as a good guy to be around. For New Orleans, getting Drew Brees could mean much more than merely having a solid starting QB. 2. Drew Brees, QB, New Orleans Saints: The price tag was big and the injury history makes it risky to some degree, but getting Brees changes the team's image. There is hope for the front office and coaches that they can recruit players and sell opportunity in New Orleans. I spoke with WR Joe Horn, and he seemed really upbeat about the prospects for the future. Brees also changes the value of the Saints' draft pick at No. 2. They can stay right where they are and take an OT like D'Brickashaw Ferguson or a DE like Mario Williams. They definitely can entertain conversations about trading down a few spots and still get a great player and an extra draft pick. Brees helped the Saints in many ways. 3. Chester Taylor, RB, Minnesota Vikings: He's young, has low mileage and skills to be the "bell cow" for the Vikings. Minnesota's coaches also tell me he has underrated hands as a receiver out of the backfield. 4. Josh McCown, QB, Detroit Lions: Here's a young kid that had a 9-4 record for the Cardinals at home. He wants to compete for the starting job in Detroit. He's buying a house in town and he has a chance to be this year's version of Jake Delhomme, especially with Mike Martz coaching the offense. Josh told me that the year he just spent with Kurt Warner was like going to the Mike Martz school for quarterbacks.</div> http://www.nfl.com/news/story/9316409

I saw McCown almost beat the panthers this year. When i saw him he played an almost flawless game except for one play because he had a crap line.
