Chris Paul will not be the next big anything in the NBA. He is, and I stress this greatly, a POOR man's Jason Williams (Duke) Everyone thought he was a sure shot star the minute he walked on the court, and his rookie year he greatly struggled. Now, I know the accident took away potential, however, I think CP is gonna struggle cuz he got away with an aweful lot in college that he will not in the NBA. Now as far as my opinion on the next big thing coming into the draft this year, my vote goes 2 ways. For INSTANT impact, we're talking Deron Williams. I think in the right spot, say Utah, he could run the floor and drop dimes to Boozer, Kirilenko, and Harpring. It's the perfect system for him. Even say LA moved up, running next to Kobe and Butler and Odom, he could flurish ASAP and give you 10/8. Now as far as FUTURE star. My nod goes in the irection of Marvin Williams. Any player who is that big on an athletic freak has become a star. His inside outside ability, his finishing of the fast break and potential to be an awesome defender are immense. Should he land on a team like Ne Orleans, I think him and JR Smith could be a scary 2some. Charlotte, having the inside force they have, imagine swithing G Wallace to the 2 (which he has played) and a break being run with Wallace on your left and Williams on your right? As a point guard, I would shoot wads at running that team. You want thoughts, there's my 0.02.
Bogut's abilities as a rebounder and passer will help him early,Paul can shoot, but his D is pretty marginal,he will learn to use quickness to compensate for his size, Deron Williams is solid and could be the impact rookie. Forwards Diogu,Granger,Warrick, and Simiem have some NBA ready elements to their game, the question may be which gets the opportunity to start early Gerald Green,at 6-8,could find a spot at F or G and as a likely top 5,should land on a team where one of those roles is available. He can hit the long J well, has good hands, can jump with the top leapers and has enough trickery and finsse to score inside. I didn't see enough to say his D-RBD skills are there, though he seemed to give an effort at everything. Marvin Williams can catch up,he does have freak physical abilities. His game, however, needs polish and more dedication. He was used to being so athletically superior in HS,he had not developed inside techniques, and when he faced guys with a lot of size and skill, the fakes,tricks,mid-air adjustments were not there. Teammate May was one of the best at such tactics, maybe Marvin learned some since the season. On D and rebounds he was lacking. Boxing out is not a hard skill to learn, you just have to want to. His D at times was non-existant,though when he seemed to want to play D,he showed some ability. He's a streak shooter from outside, and the pro 3 is deeper,so he should work on that too. I felt he had yet to show a commitment to being the star he can be-and is still not. Kicksdaddy and I have argued some on the issue,he's the optimist,I'm the skeptic. Some guys never crank it up to really perfect their game, Some never give that max effort in games. If Marvin has the desire-look out. If not...... The guy who's my sleeper is Salim Stoudamire. He has to transition to point, but ex-Arizona G's have...Arenas,Terry. If the point skills emerge-he can out shoot any of the top 3 point G's,and most NBA veterans, and he's quick.
yall are crazy. the best player coming out of the draft GARANTEED is chris taft. he didnt even try at pit and he was still there best player and put up big number. hes like a clone of kgs body and athleticism and as soon as he starts puttin sum effort in hell be tearin up the league for years. i hope the raps get him, bosh and taft baby

I think the next big player is Raymond Felton. He is a great PG and has tremendous upside and think he will do well in the NBA. Another guy I like is Julius Hodge. I think in a few years he could develop into a great player and will be a nice steal for a team in the end of the 1st round or middle of the second.
Taft is the guy....if you want a backup who puts it in cruise control. Wake-up call-SMALL FORWARD Danny Granger topped Taft in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots per game. If Taft is lazy, sluggish and uninspired,"potential" is meaningless. As he did not do much, really, where is the proof his "A" game is anything? Being 6-10 don't mean nuthin' if you play like 6-6
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">he didnt even try at pit and he was still there best player and put up big number. </div> Yeah, thats who I wanna draft, someone who doesnt try. And honestly, if you watched Pitt at all, he was their 3rd best player, behind Chevy Troutman and Carl Krauser. He just has the best game and skills to translate into the NBA. If it was on actual heart and ability to play the game of basketball, not a height and potential clad world, Troutman would be the guy we're talking about for the Lottery. Taft just got cought up in his own hype of being a Top 3 pick, and he coasted to avoid injury. With the right coaching staff all over his ass, he'll be something, if he goes to a team who lets him go through the motions, and he doesnt have teammates who try and motivate him, he's gonna be the top candidate of the "fade into obscurity" award.
If being in a Big East tournament game,or the NCAA,or on national TV is not enough motivation...what is? Some players have a limited set of things they learned and no real knack for instant improv, and that can be real limiting and slow to overcome. Some know what to do,yet are a bit too slow doing it. Until a guy is effective,in this case, plays up to a lottery level, plays to the level his physical tools seem to promise,it is hard to really figure what is holding him back, and how limiting it will be. Taft is a pick for a team desperate for some beef, several guys talked about as sure high picks have yet to earn or prove a thing except the perception that several teams will take a chance on a guy who has size but showed only hints of significant talent.
I'd say that you could compare Bosh to Garnett but Taft??!!? His body looks more like Eddy Curry than Garnett! And big numbers?!?!?!? what'd he average like 15/7? That's not so great. Juan Mendez avg'd 24/10 and that wasn't even tops in NCAA, what the scouts like about Taft is that his body is NBA ready to bang away in the paint. at 260 he is hefty and would be hard to move....IF HE TRIED! But with the right coaching staff he could MAYBE be a monster down low
