I read today that Ogunleye's agent is asking for a $7-$8 million per year contract....a little expensive for a guy whos had one good year???? The Dolphins can tender him a 1 year deal as a restricted free agent and get compensation if he signs elsewhere....if they tender him $1.94mil/1 year, they would recieve a 1st and 3rd round draft pick if he signs elsewhere, considering that they cant possibly sign him to a long term deal with thier cap, I think this is the way to go(that extra 1st could allow them to move up and get a QB). Guys that can rush the passer from LE are pretty rare(only Strahan comes to mind), and Ogunleye is a young guy, I bet some team will pony up the cash and draft picks to sign him, I think its worth it to the Dolphins if they can get that compensation...
Leonard Little comes to mind as a pash rushing LDE. I agree w/ Beef "tender" him and get some much needed draft picks. Early indication is that Rothliesberger may be gone by the time the phins pick which s/b around #17.
Teams that need defense and pick late would be interested in sure(KC, Minn, Indy, Tenn(if Kearse leaves), GB)....an interesting trade option would be Ogunleye and a #1(17th through 20th) to the Lions for thier #1....I could see that trade happening if the lions are looking for pass rush help...I think a lot of teams will look at Ogunleye as a young pass rusher and ask themselves if they can draft anyone who will help them sooner....if you think your a team on the brink, big O fits well
Another team that might be willing would be Atlanta, they pick high and they need defensive help....say Ogunleye + Miami's #1 for Atlanta's #1 allowing Miami to take the best QB available or maybe Larry Fitz if hes eligible...
Ogunleye has another sack in the 1st half of todays game with the Jets...that gives him 60 tackles and 15 sacks on the season....I figure the better his numbers get, the more likely a team will give the 1st/3rd compensation and sign him, so heres to seeing Big O go nuts in the 2nd half!
As I watching the Indy game earlier today, it was stated that the Bears & Houston did not accumulate alot of sacks this year. I can't see Ogunleye as a 3-4 DE or OLB. Though, I can see Chicago paying what he is asking and then being willing to work some type of compensation. DL is the one position I don't worry about for the Dolphins. Lets just hope that D. Bowns who can play DE & DT doesn't suffer any freakish non-football injuries.
I wouldnt think Chicago would be interested, becasue they have 2 really young ends in Mike Haynes(Rookie) and Alex Brown(2nd year), but you never know, and Big O definetly couldnt play OLB, he needs his hand on the gorund to be effective...hes a fast DE, hed be a slow OLB
I know some team will make attempt to sign Ogunleye. If not Chicago? How bout the Colts or Atlanta (who should go back to the 4-3) or Arizona or Washington (gotta love Daniel 'no credit card limit' Snyder) or Oakland?? Lets hope a GM is in place by this time. Otherwise, this will be a decision that Wanny will NOT make.
