Not so long ago one of the NBA's most feared enforcers was New York Knicks forward Charles Oakley. Anyone who committed a hard foul on Patrick Ewing, John Starks or any of Oakley's teammates would find themselves the victim of a hard back screen, or just a devastating hack on the way to the basket shortly thereafter. Oakley was part player, part bodyguard in a much tougher NBA, and spent time with the Chicago Bulls, Knicks, Toronto Raptors Washington Wizards and Houston Rockets during a career that spanned 19 years. Now he wants to impart some of his knowledge to the big men of today's NBA.

"I'm going to try and get into coaching, so I've been going to games and trying to get a feel for the flow and the vibe because I think there's a lot to be taught," Oakley tells HOOPSWORLD. "I'm going to send a package to all the different teams around the league and try to set up two or three big man camps over the summer. I'd like to help today's fours and fives understand the game better."

Actually I wouldn't want him teaching Greg at all. I would however, like him to teach Lamarcus a thing or two.

Yes he would be a great coach for both Aldridge and Oden. Especially Aldridge. I would love to see him be a little more assertive with the teams we face.

Coach Lucas sidelined
Blazers assistant coach Maurice Lucas has been unable to attend practices and games in the regular season because he is battling fatigue, McMillan said. Lucas underwent bladder cancer surgery in April and missed most of last season, but returned to the team this fall saying he would play-by-ear how much he would be involved with the team. "He's tired. Just tired," McMillan said. "He's trying to battle through it." McMillan said he will leave it up to Lucas as to when he returns and said he would not look for a successor this season.

Never happen. If they wanted the team to be tougher, I'm sure Kermit Washington would jump at a job offer. Being too tough on the court might compromise their media friendly/choir boy image.
