The Official "Get Eric Snow In A Rockets Uniform" Thread Now all us Rockets fans are aware that we still have some glaring needs in our roster despite the blockbuster acquistion of two-time scoring champ Tracy McGrady. Most notably, we have holes in terms of a backup post and at the point guard spot, now that Steve Francis has left for good. There are multiple rumors going around over who should be starting in that enshrined 1 spot for the Rockets...Brent Barry, Damon Jones, Derek Fisher...all are names that have been thrown about in search for the perfect point guard for this team. However, I think the perfect point guard for this Rockets squad is Eric Snow, and here's why. Snow has a reputation of being a proven leader and veteran player who has been to the Finals and on playoff teams with the Philadelphia 76ers. And while the cast of the Sixers has changed endlessly over the past few seasons, there have been two consistent constants throughout: Allen Iverson and Snow. Snow is your typical JVG type of player: he is one of the premier perimeter defenders in the league, can distribute the ball among the best of them and knows how to control tempo and rhythm of a game. This past season he averaged 10.3 ppg, 6.9 apg and 3.4 rpg. His assists were good enough for #6 in the NBA, and while the major knock on him has been his shooting (or lack thereof) he is a career 43% marksman. While it is said that he has no 3-point shot (which is true) we must remember that the Rockets will have plenty of bombers. McGrady, Jim Jackson, Ty Lue and Eric Piatkowski are all respected 3-point artists. What the point guard position will require this season for the Rockets is 1) hard nosed defense, 2) passing/finding the open man and getting the ball to the right players, and 3) being a leader/veteran influence on the floor. This is what Snow brings to the team. He also brings nice size (6'3", 204) to the spot and is only 31 years of age, meaning he has another good 4-5 years of contributing in the NBA. Ladies and gentleman, it would be in our best interest that the Rockets acquire Eric Snow as the point guard of this team. By using their trade exception that they were given in the Glen Rice/Utah deal early this season, they will likely only have to give up one other player, someone like Clarence Weatherspoon or Piatkowski. This still leaves us plenty of room to look for backup frontcourt help, such as an Antonio McDyess or the recently mentioned Adonal Foyle. Assuming all goes as planned (as Tripl3 would have it anyway ) that would mean our roster would look like this: C: Yao Ming/ Antonio McDyess PF: Juwan Howard/ Mo Taylor SF: Jim Jackson/ Bostjan Nachbar SG: Tracy McGrady/ Eric Piatkowski PG: Eric Snow/ Ty Lue/ Reece Gaines Definitely a top-3 Western Conference team in contention for a championship
Tripl3, I agree with you in that we do need a player of Snow's capabilities to help us at the point guard slot. However, I don't think the Sixers would move Snow if only Weatherspoon was offered. They'd need a starting PG as well if Snow was traded. I also would not like the prospect of us throwing in a first-round pick. We have already gone two years without first rounders and that has hurt us mightily. All in all, as good as this lineup might seem, I'm sure we'd have to give a lot more than just Weatherspoon to get Snow, so even though I want Snow to come to us as bad as you do, it seems very far-fetched.
True, but I believe Weatherspoon's contract is up this year, plus they get the $6.5 mil trade exception as well...maybe if we even threw in Wilks...it gives them a young PG plus an expiring contract in the upcoming year as well as cap space...
Give me a break, the last thing the 76ers need are Clarence Weatherspoon or Eric Piatkowski. Jim O'brien wants to play defense and push the ball for fast breaks. For one, Spoon is too under sized and cannot run, and two Eric can't run and can only hit the 3. For us to do something like this there would have to be a 3rd team involved because the Rockets only have 2 players right now even worth trading for in T-Mac and Yao. Keep your trash and go for Fisher or one of the other guys.
If yall are gonna be running, then its likely Snow wont be ur PG...Maybe what u do is use Weatherspoon for frontcourt help, have Wilks as a backup PG, promote Salmons to starting and use the trade exception and/or mid-level exception on a PG who can fit O'Brien's style...
nobody gets it .... i'm tellin ya'll we need derek fisher... and then make a run at mcdyess... i mean we would be better off with fisher then snow... he brings championship experience, knows how to play with a dynamic duo, good defender, great three point shooter, which will make us a dangerous team c-yao/mcdyess pf-howard/taylor sf-jackson/nackbar sg-macgrady/piakowski pg-fisher/lue/gaines
If we dont get Snow I would love to see Fisher here...but Snow has advantages, particularly size and even he is a better penetrator than Fish...
Snow is the perfect fit for Houston. He'll gladly set the play and give the ball up with no questions asked.
Yeah u guys would need a 3rd team in this because they won't trade u snow for spoon or Piatkowski. You guys can have snow but u got ta find something to make it worth philly's time to trade him.
Derek Fisher or Eric Snow would be nice, they'd both fit in wit the Rockets well.... they desperately need a solid point guard right now anyway, Tryon is no starting material.
I don't know about the whole Howard for Snow trade. Howard is a very nice player, good veteran. But I'd like to see Snow as a Rocket. I think he's an underrated PG, good assist man. Well he did get a lot of assists dishing the ball to AI, maybe he can do the same for Houston with Tmac and Yao on the team. Fisher is a good option also, but I think Snow is first option and Fisher 2nd.
I hope Billy King doesnt trade Snow I think he likes it Philly and I think he would want to stay there. Also I dont think the Sixers would give up the starting PG for SPOON!Snow gives everything Philly needs at the PG spot IMO he passes to AI and he plays solid defense, dont not trade him!
Man im totally lovin this thread and becomin a big rockets fan i like ming alot and with t-mac now on the team i think they are getting real potential. I am a very big snow fan he is such an unselfish player and he can play D. To see him play for the rockets would make me an even larger houston fan. fisher is good too even tho i hate the lakers.
Snow has a big contract and is over 30.. His skills (defense, penetration) are contingent on his legs, and pg's tend to taper off once they hit the big three-oh.. Don't get me wrong, he's a strong player with great work ethic, but how much longer is going to be able to keep up with the quick pg's in the league? Fisher has better conditioning and has age on his side, while Barry has enough size to help deal with lapses defensively (not to mention is a strong outside shooter, which Snow doesn't really bring to the table)..
Snow does have decent size for a PG tho, 6'3", 204...and while he is not a strong penetrator, all his role will be is be a leader, pass to the open man and play strong, solid defense against the better PGs of the West...
