Boozer's return has moved Gibson to the bench and he is no longer producing, even taking into account his recent injury. What Boozer contributes is just too similar to Gibson. Kurt Thomas' recent "emergence," if you call it that, has also decreased the teams' dependence on Gibson. Usually there is room for three big men in every rotation but that doesn't seem to be the case in this situation. And Gibson's value, because it is partially based off his rookie-scaled contract, will likely never be as high as it is now. We're almost certainly looking at a trade before the deadline. Gibson is officially dead man walking for this franchise. So for whom will he be moved? Gibson for Landry Fields and Shawne Williams (as filler)? Knicks need inside length, and I think Gibson would be perfect for their offense. Bulls could use a three point shooting and the perimeter rebounding. Probably not equal value -- I don't think NY makes the deal -- but I'm just tossing out ideas here. Incoming Players: Incoming Players Shawne Williams 6-9 PF from Memphis Landry Fields 6-7 from Stanford Outgoing Players Taj Gibson 6-9 PF / SF from Southern California
I don't have a great gauge of trade value but on the outside they don't seem that far off. Would I include the Charlotte pick? I think so. Taj Gibson was dropping 16 and 9 and is a big man on a second year contract; Landry Fields is dropping 10 and 7.6 as a shooting guard on a rookie contract. Does Landry Fields have the potential all-star type ceiling that makes him out of reach in a Gibson trade?
If we trade him, have to get a SG and a serviceable pf back in return. Would you feel good with Scalabrine playing meaningful minutes for us? Deng will be wore out playing both back up pf and starting sf. I agree with Denny, we can get more for him. Hey Orlando is looking for a big man, What about Gibson in a package that brings us Redick?
I'm pretty sure Reddick is either PPP or BYC. Either way, I don't think he's easily tradeable by Orlando for at least 1 year if not two.
I don't think Reddick is the answer either. I've seen him a fair bit and I'm not convinced he's that much better than Brewer in terms of his overall contribution. I rather try to see them concentrate on getting Ronny in the mix.
