What a sad excuse for a newspaper it has become: * 4 days a week * The new, stupid layout - trying to look like physical webpage or something * Taking up room with giant photos * Full of stories from new services Makes me sad to look at it.
All this hatred because they stubbornly won't get rid of Canzano. I have led this boycott so long that those pig-heads have forgotten why. As they know all too well in Houston, don't mess with jlprk.
It's been 4 days a week for months now. You just noticed that, as well as the new format that was introduced 2 months ago?
No Einstein, I tried to give it a chance. I write for USA TODAY. I know a little bit about the newspaper business.
What? I asked a homophone and he says that homophobes are afraid of homynyms but are full of synonym themselves.
I finally got around to cancelling my subscription today. For those of you who still subscribe (if any) I discovered they've adopted the Comcast business model - threaten to cancel and they'll offer to cut your rates. barfo
The Oregonian just made their strongest hire in years with the hiring of Mark Katches. Mark Katches named new editor of The Oregonian and VP of Oregonian Media Group Mark Katches, a nationally recognized leader of investigative and enterprise journalism, has been named vice president of content for the Oregonian Media Group and editor of The Oregonian. Katches comes to Oregon from The Center for Investigative Reporting, the nation's largest watchdog reporting organization, where since 2009 he has been editorial director. The Bay Area-based center is known for its digital innovation, unique engagement initiatives and multiplatform storytelling. "Mark Katches is an outstanding journalist and leader," said N. Christian Anderson III, president of Oregonian Media Group and publisher of The Oregonian. "His track record of leading teams to produce information of substance that serves readers and communities is extensive. He will lead us as we continue to transform how we provide and deliver news and information to the people of Oregon and Southwest Washington." At OregonLive.com and The Oregonian, Katches said he will push for more aggressive coverage of breaking news, deeper watchdog reporting and more stories that engage readers around the topics they are most passionate about. http://www.oregonlive.com/business/index.ssf/2014/07/mark_katches_named_new_editor.html I had never heard of the The Center for Investigative Reporting so I went to their website and was impressed with the articles and investigations that I read. http://cironline.org/ Especially a lot of their big investigation pieces - http://cironline.org/investigations IMO the Oregonian has been very soft on hard hitting reporting for years. IMO they lost all credibility when they called Neil Goldschmidt having sex with a 14yr old an affair instead of child molestation and they have done little to nothing to gain that credibility back.
