Being a big Augmon fan, I have done some research on his conributions over the past 7 seasons as both a role player off the bench and a starter. Whilst playing for Portland and New Orleans, Augmon has backed up the likes of Isiah Rider, Jim Jackson, Steve Smith, Walt Williams, Bonzi Wells, Jamal Mashburn and David Wesley-all quality shooters. Augmon has played over 30 minutes in the last 7 seasons only 35 times. In those 35 games, his team was victorious 24 times or 69%. Here are his stats in those 35 games: Mins-34.9, 5.5 rebs, 3.1 asts, 1.63 stls and 10.9 pts. This season, Augmon will be backing up the likes of Mobley, Hill, Turkoglu, and Stevenson. He is what you would call an 'insurance' player, and can step up when a star players falls to injury. When given quality minutes, you can count on Augmon to give you a a great effort. He will also be relied on to be the T-Mac stopper. Last season, Augmon faced T-Mac 4 times and the Hornets won all four games. Here are T-Macs stats last season, whilst being guarded by Augmon: Minutes-78 FGs-12-23 (.521) FTs-3-9 (.333) TOs-5 (1.25) PTS- 27 Augmon "held" T-Mac to a total of 27 points in 78 mintues. Not bad for a 36 yr old, considering that T-Mac is 25 and averaged 28 pts in 40 mins a game last season. Go the Plasticman.
He isn't great but the Magic will benefit from him bringing veteran leadership and experience of the bench.
