Fox Sports reports that the Red Sox have acquired Closer Craig Kimbrel from the Padres in exchange for a package of 4 prospects in return as per John Heyman.
Yeah Rick I am sure he is awesome, Just have the feeling that the Red Sox are going to make a big splash this winter like they did in 2013.
Here's hoping they have the same success with this years signings as they did with last years signings (Sandoval & Hanley)
^^^I think he's still on the roster but I seem to remember him having some health issues last year...plus he's 40 or so.
... they need to find another position other than LF for Hanley...he's a butcher out there...1B maybe?
Because the Yanks already have an excellent closer, the Redsox were in need of one and were willing to part with four prospects? Not such a big surprise, Dombrowski was sitting on a load of highly regarded prospects and some of us saw this coming. Was the move to make - if they now add a good SP, it is not good news for the A.L. East......but of course I blame Trashman for this situation.
They have some kid at 1b Travis Shaw, 13HR/36RBI/.270BA/.813 OPS 226AB. They really have a system that turns out good ML players. My hat's off to them. They let Ellsbury walk and produced a Mookie Betts two years later. He was a 5th round pick in 2011! Obviously the thing which has, and could hold them back is their pitching....and of course the injury bug. http://www.sportstwo.com/threads/meanwhile-dombrowski-is-sitting-pretty.291847/
I think Cashman tried to acquire Kimbrel last season but it never materialized. So the Sox got him whoopee doo, going to be interesting to see how he fares against AL East Division Teams.
...like the Yanx as well as many other teams, when they have clear cut needs on their roster, they almost always overpay for FAs or in trades.
