This is the first Star Report, one of many to come. This is where I will voice my opinion on the NBA. Some of the topics in this Report will be Kenyon Martin, The Clippers, 2002 Rookies, and The NBA Off-Season. First Topic Is- Kenyon Martin :thumbsdow Ok, So you want a maximum extension? You think you should get a maximum extension before averaging 20ppg and/or 10rpg, or even being an All-Star power foward for the weak East. Only Superstars should get max contracts, and you are not a superstar, you aren't even an All-Star yet. If I was New Jersey I would not give you a maximum extension before the season starts. I would wait and see how you do this season. If you make the All-Star team then they should give you around 75 million dollars. You should not get a max deal, but in this new age NBA where players are highly overpaid, you probably will get the max deal. Second Topic Is - The Clippers :thumbsdow So you have finally decided to pay your players, but you really didn't pay them, you stoped them from signing with other teams. Let's see, the Heat offered an $82 million dollar (about i dont know the exact number) deal to Elton Brand. The Utah Jazz offered a $44 million dollar(about i dont know the exact number) deal to Corey Maggette. The Clippers did not pay their players, they let other teams do it for them, and they just matched the offer. Third Topic Is - 2002 Rookies   The 2002 Rookies are one of the most underrated class of rookies since the class of 1992. There are 3 Future MVP type players Amare Stoudemire, Caron Butler, and Yao Ming. There are lots of other great young players who are behind superstar players in the depth chart. For example Kareem Rush is behind Kobe Bryant and Qyntel Woods is behind Bonzi Wells. The only bust in the whole draft to me looks like it is Chris Wilcox. Fourth Topic Is- The NBA Offseason This offseson was a very busy one for the NBA in many ways this year. There were a lot of off the court problems in the NBA. Even with star players like Kobe Bryant and Jerry Stackhouse. There was a very good draft. Some potental superstar players were in this year's draft. Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade, Tj Ford, and Jarvis Hayes. There were a lot of big moves in the free agent market. Zo is now a Net, Jason Kidd is not a Spur, 2 Hall of Famers joined the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Clippers kept 2 and maybe 3 of their starting lineup. There was a big trade. The Knicks are now softer, Hawks are clearing cap room, Sixers got a second scorer, and the T-Wolves got a pure shooting guard that can play defense. Stay tuned for the next Star Report for J-Mac the
Ahh, you mentioned the 2002 rookie but didn't say anything about a bunch of guys like Wagner, Jay Will, Dunleav, Skeeta, and the steal Carlos Boozer. And then you talked about the stars in this years draft and didn't say anything about the 2nd overall pick Darko.
this is a great concept J-Mac. it's always nice to have a summary on the developments in the league. STCBBall3 made some great points, but this is the first report, and they should only get better. also you should proof read and correct some of your spelling mistakes just to give it more professionalism, or if you want feel free to post it in the writing team and either BC or myself can help you out. great job though, i look forward to the next 1!
Thanks, this is what I like to read. Appreciate it J-Mac. Look forward to the next star report.
Sorry for the spelling My comp does not have a spell checker. Anyone know where i can download one. I see Drako as a all-star but no one near the players i talked about. I forgot about Wagner. Caron Butler was the steal and jay williams is injured pretty bad and i just dont think he will be as dood as a #2 pick should be.
Boozer was a steal. I think Skeeta is a bust so far. Wilcox was tn that bad he was a sophmore coming out of college and playing behind Brand.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Raptors21:</div><div class="quote_post">Boozer was a steal. I think Skeeta is a bust so far. Wilcox was tn that bad he was a sophmore coming out of college and playing behind Brand.</div> Skita is too early to call. He was 19 years old as a rookie. Thats the same age as if he came straight out of HS into the pros. He was a project when he was drafted. Denver knew it would take him a good 3-4 years to turn dividends on him. Another player people seem to forget about is Gooden. With all the hype Amare, Ming, and co. are getting, Gooden sometimes is overlooked. In the last month, Gooden averaged OVER 10rpg. As a rookie. He was getting PT and starting, and he showed results. Gooden should become a 20/10 PF sooner than many think. Maybe not this season, but Id expect him to be very soon....
Gooden, I forgot about him. Hey played well in the playoffs also. This year, DG should be a 15 ppg, 9 rpg player.
J-mac- You say Caron is headed for MVP territory but you don't back it up at all. I'm not saying I disagree but if you're going to claim that after putting up 15 a night for bad team as a rookie, that a guy will eventually be the league's Most Valuable Player you've got to back it up. I'm all for taking risks, but at least let us know WHY you think he's going to be MVP, otherwise you're just telling us what you think without providing any evidence for it. Otherwise known as BSing. I've read a lot of posts and know you must have some reasons for thinking that, hit us with them! Lets get some serious basketball talk going! Also, I enjoyed this post, keep 'em coming! Vintage- Do you really think that Gooden will be a consistent 20, 10 guy? He definitely has the ability to get double digit rebounds but I never saw much that indicated he's ready to score more than 15 a night. His range is so limited and he really only has one polished post-move. I love Gooden but to get to 20 ppg I think he'd have to show some remarkable improvement offensively or play for an awful team a la Juwan Howard in Denver last year. Admittedly, I only saw him play 7-8 times (counting the playoffs) last year so I could be missing something, is there something you see in his game that I've missed? For now I'm more inclined to agree with STCBball and put his numbers around 12-15 and 8-10, depending on how they use him with Juwan Howard.
MVP is a little much I think, but Caron will be an All Star easily. When he adds a consistent 3 point stroke, then he will be a top SF in the league. He has the ability to put up 20-7-4 in 2 years. Gooden will definately be a consistent 20/10 guy in 3 or 4 years. He is limited but he is a rookie. Gooden, if he gets a nice post game, and improves his 15 foot jumper, then he will be a 20 point scorer. But really, he needs to add some muscle to be a 10 rebound guy. Right now, I see him actually at 8 this year with TMac and Howard.
Ok- Caron Butler only got 15 points a game because he had to share playing time with Eddie jones. At the end of the season he had 3 30 point games. He is the next paul pierce. With a better drive and a worse 3 point shot but he has the potental to be a mvp type player just like paul pierce.
The heat are going to play odom at the point guard spot PG-odom SG-wade SF-Butler PF-Grant C-??? All they need is a good center.
