I’ve debated whether to tell this story since the Blazers were announced they were for sale, but with the recent Adam Silver comments and some of your reactions, I figured what the hell. It was almost 2 months ago when the Paul Allen Estate put the team for sale. Things were very bleak then. Here is the Wikipedia summary of that era: Paul Allen didn’t own the Moda. (Cause he passed RIP) The team sucked. (Subjectively) Having financial problems. (Subjectively) Fans mad or apathetic. (Still true) It was at this point, one of the lowest in franchise history, that the PA Estate put the team for sale. The chances of the team being sold and moving were a very real possibility. Now, the internet was a bit different back then. Social media was toxic. The Oregonlive Blazer chat room would be old enough to a wife, kid, and a mid life crisis, BlazersEdge still sucks, but no Twitter (it's X now), Reddit (even goes on there anyway?), Facebook (actually it was THE Facebook back then), etc. But we had RC2, dammit, and we liked it. It was then that I decided to take action. I wrote a letter to Santa asking for him to give me the Portland Trail Blazers for Christmas. OMG, this is happening! I was about to mail the letter... when my 75 year old mother told me that Santa doesn't exist, I'm 44, and I should stop acting like a child. So I went from, OMG, this is happening, to Oh no, this is dead. Sitting at home, licking my wounds, I debated on what to do next. Throw my letter away? Pray to God? Pray to Allah? Pray to the Alien shadow government? I wasn’t sure what to do, I just knew I didn’t want the Blazers to leave. It was then that I got an idea... what if I used AI to pretend to be Jeff Bezos? OMG, it’s happening… again! And what happened next, you ask? And you call yourself a Blazer fan. Cronin and the 2025 draft happened. We drafted Young Handsome and brought back Dame. But hey, I tried to buy the team.
