With the Deadline looming you had to know this story was going to surface – What should the Magic do with Hedo Turkoglu? Turkoglu has said several times this year he planned to opt out of his contract this summer and test his free agent value. Magic GM Otis Smith has maintained the team is hopeful that Turk can be re-signed. Turkoglu's agent Lon Babby confirmed to Brian Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel that on the eve of the trade deadline the plan is still to opt-out.

"I would say that there is common ground." Said Babby of a possible new deal. "There is appreciation on the part of the Magic that Hedo is a significant part of the team and the role he plays, playing multiple positions."

"Hedo enjoys the team and living in Orlando and appreciates the opportunity the Magic have given him. That said, there is a lot of work to be done to reach an agreement."
Babby is said to be seeking a new deal in the $60 million range, the Magic are looking for a deal in the low $50 million range. There is a risk the Magic could lose Turkoglu for nothing in July, that risk could prompt the Magic to consider a deal in the next 30 hours, although highly unlikely. Turkoglu and his wife are expecting their first child and staying in Central Florida seems to be a high priority for Turk, he has also hinted he'd be willing to take a marginally smaller deal to stay with the Magic. Deadline temptations aside, the odds the Magic trigger a deal are slim, a deal involving Hedo Turkoglu is likely slimmer.
