He is playing well off the bench. Very well indeed. Do we keep him in his Varejao type role to provide a genuine spark off the bench, regardless of how Boone and Krstic improve?

I found in the Dallas game his mere presence really lifted the team, at lot more than his presence did as a starter...

Boone is too consistant and solid to come off the Bench but Sean... might be the best way to fast track his development... make him make a difference...

I agree that Boone is way to consistent to be removed from starter-minutes. I think that Sean's offensive game isn't pushed enough. Frequently he'll start effectively, but plays will never be run for him after he returns. I'd really like to see him get more involved in the offense, and his 10+ points in the 4th quarter against the Mavs was indicative.

I think we can get the most talent on the floor with a Sean/Krstic front court, but we're a ways away from making that a realistic option: Sean needs to improve his rebounding, and Krstic needs to continually improve his shot. I'm already impressed with Krstic's rebounding numbers these past two games.

Right now, Sean and Boone are our best defensive players. They're the best at boxing out, the best at rebounding, and the best at blocking shots.

So, as of now, I'd feel great with Sean coming off the bench, and Krstic starting. Also, Sean is the better scorer of the 2 youngins Josh + Sean, so he's a great offensive spark off the bench when all of the "big" three aren't in the game.

Swift + Williams off the bench would be one hell of an energetic duo for the frontline. The no lay up rule w/ those 2 on the floor applies... [IMG]

I think Sean Williams has enough talent harnessed within him to take Krstic's or Boone's spot quite frankly.

Right now he's better suited off the bench. He's the spark for a bench that is among the league's worst.

But this is a great problem to have. Even though we have worse problems now.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'> "I'm more suited to coming off the bench and bringing energy and more production," Williams said after his 15-7-2 performance against the Mavs. "It just feels a lot better."

Vince Carter's take: "Coming off the bench bothered him at first, but now he has a chance to see different things -- matchups, what a guy can do -- because he's going to end up guarding that guy in the stretch. It's really helping him."</div>

For the record I disagree with him [IMG] I want to see him really pushed to his potential out there, its just too bad that Krstic is having a bigger effect on whether he starts or not than he does.

The last two games his energy off the bench has been great and I would stick with it for now.
Williams definitely has more offensive skills than Boone, he's shown a decent lefty hook and even hits the 12' baseline jumper reasonably consistently. If he adds jumpers from the elbows, that'd help keep his defenders up on him and give him better lanes to the rim.
When he builds consistent confidence on the offensive end is when he should be a starter.

Williams does have a better offensive game thsn Boone, however I have noticed Josh being more assertive on offense shooting a few 7 or 8 footers...I know that's not much but its nice to see slight imrovement like that midseason.

For the record I agree w/ Sean, his rookie season he should be coming off the bench and shutting down the scrubs while getting improvement in his all around game. Remember there are so many things he needs to do in order to be a consistent starter, boxing out, setting screens for his shooters, passing out of the post and reposting, the veterans he faces game by game can frustrate him at times, this is why getting a Gasol or Oneal was important, a vet who he can learn from and won't stop his progress.

He's just trying to say the right things. What percentage of players won't want to start/get more minutes?

Well, Carter did say he was bothered by it at first.

I've been saying this since he was put into the starting role with Boone. Sean is better off the bench

And also just b/c he's not starting doesn't nessesarily mean that he won't get a lot of playing time. He had the most minutes out of all the big men and he came off the bench last night against Dallas.

I definitely like Sean as the first big off the bench for right now. It gives him an opportunity to observe the game, how opponents are playing, how tightly the game is being officiated, before getting in. That should help him avoid the early foul trouble that has plagued him often as a starter. And it also gives him just the little bit of "edge" or hunger that any player should feel when they spend time anticipating their chance to make a difference on the court. For a young player with so much talent but a less-than-given work ethic, you want to keep them just a little starved so that they eat all of their meal . . . so to speak.

There's no question that he is the most gifted of the Nets' big men, and I include offense in that. The more I see of him, the more confident I am that this guy will have a VERY nice offensive game in a couple of years if he wants to keep working and improving. His touch out to midrange is excellent. He has shown surprisingly good use of his left hand. He already has a variety of releases (jump hooks, banks, jumpers) that look well-controlled with ample backspin. His free throw form looks very good, especially for someone who came in with a reputation of not being a shooter, so he shouldn't be a liability at the line like so many 4s and 5s in the league. And his supreme athleticism will ensure that he will get a lot of opportunities at the rim, either off his own moves or from moving without the ball. I actually think he should be getting a couple more shots a game because he looks so good offensively, plays run specifically for him to get a look.

It's worth pointing out for those unaware that he did not start playing basketball until high school. Usually players with that late a start look no where near as good releasing the ball as he does, especially at this stage in a career. So, again, if he stays committed to work and to improvement, I could easily see him as a 20 ppg player in 3 years and the best offensive player on the team over 6'7".

I'm happy with what he's at now. When he starts, he always gets quick fouls since they go at him.

His confidence is better suited for the bench atleast this year.

Plus Kristic need time with the first unit to round into shape. He did some good things yesterday. I like this in all aspects.
