Cops. They used to be known as "peace officers." Then it became "law enforcement officer." What is it now? How about "paramilitary death squad?"

Man, it's hard to find anything on this.

    Fake News is burying it.

Officer shot Chicago security guard gave ‘verbal commands’ to drop gun, witnesses say
By Bradford Betz | Fox News

A police officer mistakenly shot and killed a security guard at a bar in Chicago's south suburbs. Jemel Roberson, had actually apprehended one of the suspects in a gunfight outside the bar, but a cop accidentally mistook him for the suspect.

The police officer who fatally shot a black armed security guard as he held down a gunman outside a bar in Chicago’s suburbs on Sunday, had told the guard to drop his gun and get on the ground before ultimately firing his weapon, according to witnesses cited by Illinois State Police.

COP ACCIDENTALLY KILLS SECURITY GUARD AT BAR IN CHICAGO SUBURBS: REPORT

The security guard, Jemel Roberson, 26, had apprehended a gunman who had reportedly opened fire and injured four at Manny’s Blue Room Lounge in Robbins around 4 a.m.

Officers from the Robbins and Midlothian Police Departments, along with other suburban police officers responded to a call of shots fired, ISP said in a news release.

According to the release, a Midlothian officer encountered Roberson “with no markings readily identifying him as a Security Guard, armed with a gun in the west parking lot.”

An attorney representing Roberson’s family said Roberson was wearing a hat with “security” across the front. Attorney Gregory Kulis filed a civil rights lawsuit seeking more than $1 million on behalf of Roberson's mother, Beatrice Roberson.

FAMILY OF CHICAGO SECURITY GUARD SHOT DEAD BY COP FILES LAWSUIT

One of the two Midlothian officers gave “multiple verbal commands to drop the gun and get on the ground” before shooting Roberson, witnesses said.

Officers provided medical assistance to the four victims and Roberson, the release said. Roberson was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office ruled Roberson’s death a homicide and said he was shot multiple times. The Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department is continuing its investigation. The officer's identity has not been released.

Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting to call ISP at (847) 294-4400 or Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department at (847) 635-1188. Callers will anonymous.

You go do that job and see how you do.

Sure seems easy to point fingers at cops when they kill someone by mistake.

I'm sure this cop saw this, knew it was a security guard and said fuck it...black guy.

    KILL HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!

It sure does suck for the poor guy who was just doing his job. A dangerous job obviously but he didn't deserve to get shot.

You attributing split second rational thinking to the officer. Sometimes people act on instinct in a split second and perhaps his instinct was more like "Black, danger, danger, danger".

Of course, in this instance, I really have no idea what went through his mind other than "oh shit, what have I done".

Or we could not make it racial and think rational. More like “guy with a gun, danger danger danger. Eliminate.”

It’s easy to sit here and say oh the cop was obviously a racist, he just showed up and shot him. Well break that down in your head a bit. While racist cops do exist I highly doubt this dude was spotted as black and just shot. I would think it had more to do with the fact he had a gun. Unfortunate situation all around. I would like to see what you or anybody else judging the situation would do upon arriving to what you know is a hostile situation, a shooting, and not knowing who the fuck the bad guy is and what’s going on and you pull up and see a guy with a gun. Doesn’t matter that he’s black. That’s you guys wanting that narrrative. I have seen plenty of white dudes shot and killed by the police for the same thing. Simply not listening to commands and carrying a weapon that was visible. Now is that racist? Nope and nobody tried to make that argument either. I ask that you guys put yourselves in other shoes, use logic as opposed to calling everything racist and assuming it all just must be racist or because he was black. The narrative is getting old and does nothing more than put police in danger when used as a narrative.

We don't really know. All I'm saying is that situations do arise where people react out of illlogical instinct that has been carefully taught. I was taught by my father and my peers to look down on and fear minorities. I was mostly taught to fear African-Americans but also other minorities. Proof of this is all over the place. African-Americans are shot by over nervous police officers constantly.

Right but here is the thing, you come from a different time. Not long ago this country was very racist, that is the time I assume you grew up in when you were young. There are still very racist parts of the country such as the south. Race issues have improved drastically. We live in a society now where racism just isn't tolerated and people lose jobs over it, etc. A majority of people hate racism as they should. This shows how far we have come. I like to try and look at most cases with police objectively as I feel like people really shit on them for no apparent reason or they will generalize all police based on one dumb cop. After watching documentaries like Flint where it shows this underhand police force made up of both white and black cops dealing with the overwhelming violence in flint michigan or The Force which was this other documentary showing police in Oakland. Gave me tremendous respect. Yeah, obviously racist and crooked cops exist but I think a majority of cops are doing the best job they can. People think cops aren't people or something but reality is they share the same instincts as us, fight or flight, etc.

I have seen the philando castille shooting. It's terrible. However if you watch the video you can hear the fear in the cops voice and what he had just done had quickly set over him. That's the unfortunate reality these days. When people reach for things, cops often think they are reaching for weapons. I don't believe in this ridiculous idea that cops are just itching to kill black people. Shit I have seen white people get the same treatment on video. It doesn't matter. The fact is, if you have a family at home and somebody reaches for something whether it's a weapon or not after being told not to reach, it's kill or be killed at that point. You wanna get back to that family. It's an insane job. I can sit here and link videos of white people being shot and killed for the same reason. Reaching in their pockets. I am not saying whether it's right or wrong but I think people need a better understanding about it instead of immediately jump to "racist piece of shit cop!!". Those type of narratives lead to police getting ambushed how they did in Dallas or other calls around that time where people would call the police and then ambush them.

It sucks that the man was killed. Based on the reports, it looks as if his family will at least win the lawsuit filed against the city. Doesn’t help him or his 9-month old son, but in this case I think the first part of the story: “Good guy with a gun stops bad guy with a gun from killing people” shouldn’t be forgotten.

It's still very racist. Just look at our President. Incredible but true.
Ask dviss. I once asked my Black-American buddy, now deceased. I had assumed that racism was all but gone. He opened my eyes.
My wife doesn't get much in the way of racism toward her but it does happen, even to her. I had to slug a guy once for making a derogatory remark to my wife taunting her because she's Asian-American.

There are quite a lot of people in this world and country. I don't think this country is very racist at all given the scope of things. People these days want to act like the sky is falling all the time. Constant negativity. It's why I hate politics and the news. Dviss is part of the issue whether you wanna agree with that or not. Often his opinions are generalizations of a race which leads to more division. You can basically translate his words into "You have to have my same opinion or else you white folk are racist!"

I mean sure some people feel we are going backwards and all that nonsense, everybody puts way too much care and thought into what the president does and says and one damn event that could happen in the world all of a sudden becomes "it's happening all the time". The bigger picture here is that MOST people are not racist. Racism isn't tolerated in this country for the MOST part. You are always gonna have that group of fucked up people that think it's okay. You are gonna have fucked up people with fucked up beliefs regardless. They make up a small percentage of what is really going on though.

I disagree. @dviss and I vehemently disagree on some things, and I can’t recall him telling me it’s because he’s black that I don’t get it. Now, I think some of the “white privilege” stuff is overblown, but I think by definition that’s the point (to some).

Now, I don’t think many decisions are being made by or for racists. But anecdotes are easy to point out.

Uhm. How does this video support anything you're saying? That dude and that chick were drunk as shit. Why were the cops called to begin with? Why did they take such a hardline stance?
