This is Dame... take it or leave it.

The guy is fiercely loyal to his people. It's that loyalty that kept him at Weber when he could have transferred to a bigger school. It's that loyalty that has kept him in Portland while many stars of his caliber would have most likely left for a super team.

And it's that loyalty that has kept CJ here. That kept Stotts here for so long. And is now responsible for Jason Kidd being a candidate for head coach. I'm sure he knows Kidd well because they're both from Oakland. I'm sure he thinks he deserves another shot at a head coaching job.

The reality that everyone has to deal with on their own is if they're willing to sacrifice winning to keep Dame happy. I think Dame made his decision a long time ago that he would rather be loyal to his friends than chase winning. It's heart breaking seeing him kill himself physically every year, but this is what we're going to have with Dame. Take it or leave it.

 

Hire the best coach possible. Communicate with Dame. Talk about the pluses and minuses of each candidate. If the team does its job and offers enough to bring in top candidates there is no way Jason Kidd or Billups are in the top 4.

I'm not saying Dame is wrong. I'm just saying Olshey needs to bring in candidates so good that Dame understands why we don't pick Kidd or Billups.

And if we're not going to bring in guys like that, then it's not really about winning a title. In which case, why the hell not pick Dame's friends?

He has earned the best experience possible in Portland for the remainder of his career. If he's not going to get the best coach money can buy we owe him a coach he loves playing for.

 

This is really on Neil to actually sell the right candidate to Dame. If we end up with Kidd it's because Neil sucks..... so basically we're screwed.

 

Yeah, you may be right. But Olshey is a good salesman. And while nobody is a good enough salesman to convince the best players to sign here as free agents, coaches don't have the same limitations or desires.

We can outspend nearly every team in the league. There is no cap on coaches. Coaches aren't typically looking for night life.

We can get a top of the line coach if we're serious about winning.

 

The Blazers should have their pick of available coaches. Who wouldn't want to be Damian Lillard's coach?

There are dozens better than Billups or Kidd. There have been a dozen listed here in the last 24hrs.

 

I don’t see anyone, other than one loose cannon, that wishes ill will upon Stotts (or any other member of the staff).

Nope, there is a huuuuuge difference between how you view someone on his job (in this case as basketball coaches), and in real life, and well i don't know Terry personaly or the other guys, i'm sure they are cool people, but i dont like them as Coaches for my favourite team. Stop making false statements

 

I don't mind Dame having "some" input, but I really wish he had not come out so quickly and publicly for Kidd, this IMO should be is mgmt's decision and not his, but this the era in which we live
