So after lasts nights game I was blown away and saw his true potential for one of only a few times this season. What a beast on both ends. He's averaging 5 pts and 4 rebounds a game in 11 minutes roughly. When we acquired him I put him in the Brian Grant category. Not going to run plays thru him, but he should be able to go out there and do the dirty work,scrap,hustle......pretty much exactly what we saw against the Wolves. He may put up shit numbers in his next 3 games or it may be 2 weeks til we see another game from him like this, but I really hope we don't give up on this kid, he's only 21. Considering we gave up NOTHING to acquire him, this move will help us for years to come. On a side note, this usually doesn't matter for some, but T-Rob is REAL cool. Down to earth, polite......quality guy.
He needs to accept his NBA role. And that is a kenneth faried type player. I would love him to take up that attitude instead of dribbling, shooting jumpers, etc.
I like that he is a nice guy. Even better, I really like that the potential to be a real, quality, impact player is there. If he can start channeling such games more regularly, we have another very legitimate front-line player and reduces the need for us to go out and acquire another front-line player as many wished at the trade deadline. I'm very happy we got him and thrilled to see how he did last night. It was good to see some of our second-unit guys really step it up and perform. I think the experience will help them and help the team overall. Gramps...
Agreed. Maybe with his limited minutes and not a normal role out there he has felt he needs to come in and get some shots up in order to help the team. He's not that type of player.
I think instead of worrying about role and what not he just needs to keep playing hard. I haven't seen him handle the ball out of place. He does occasionally shoot a Jumper too early, but in all reality shouldn't we want a guy to be as flexible as possible.
Since a lot of posters on here have only been fans since November there aren't enough people that seem to remember a young Clifford Robinson. Cliff came into the league at the age of 23 compared to Thomas who was 21. He was athletic and took some of the most god awful ill advised shots I have ever seen. He also seemed lost a lot of the time. As a rookie he came off the bench for 19mpg and shot .397 from the field, .550 from the line and averaged 9.1 pts and 3.8 reb (17.2pt and 7.1rb per 36). By comparison Robinson as a 22 year old is playing 11.6mpg shooting .459, .613 from the line and averaging 4.5ppg, and 4.1rpg (14pt and 12.6rp per 36). Also Both players showed a pretty marked improvement from 1st season to 2nd season. Now I get that Clifford and Thomas aren't similar players in terms of play style, but Clifford is an excellent example of why you don't give up on a 1st or 2nd year big that shows promise.
Some posters may have joined the forum in November but I'm positive they've been Blazer fans long before then.
you don't give up especially when he shows us a "glimpse" like the did last night, I don't expect a game like last night every game for him (we can wish though) but I do expect more from him now and he should be starting to know what he needs to do to get and keep minutes and make it in this league, I really wish Meyers would start to do the same and show us something.
I've been vocal in not seeing the worth of Thomas Robinson, but that game was fucking awesome. He needs to play Kevin Love every game.
I get his point, you can't really be considered a real Blazer fan until you join this forum and have more than 1,199 posts. The good news is you're almost there!
disagree, what he did last night should give him confidence and reinforce how he needs to play when he is in the game, whether it's 10 minutes or 30 minutes. It's a gradual process for young players and I think he has a very good chance to have taken one of hopefully many steps forward. Lets take the D he played on Love. he did it and did it well and did not get called for a bunch of fouls against a guy who gets a shitload of calls, that should really bolster his confidence that he CAN DEFEND
Negative GhostRider.......... He is the type of player you need to leave out on the floor, mistakes and all, in order for him to help us.
yes and no, getting more minutes should lead to better play, more confidence and gradually less mistakes especially as he is in the steep "learning curve" part of his career. But as he gets a lot more minutes as he will over the next few weeks at least, I expect his "average play" to be at a higher level then where it has been even if he only gets 10-15 minutes. Again I don't expect what he did last night every night, but IMO we should remain patient but expect to see a more consistent level of play from him - gradually.
