<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The New Jersey Nets promoted Ed Stefanski to general manager on Tuesday. Stefanski served as senior vice president of basketball operations last season. He was the Nets' director of scouting the previous four years. "Ed is a keen evaluator of basketball talent," Nets president Rod Thorn said. "He is ideally suited for the demands of his new position." Stefanski will have new responsibilities, but Thorn said he will continue to make decisions on trades. "Ed will have a lot of input, though," Thorn said. Thorn also disclosed Tuesday that the Nets made a qualifying offer to All-Star power forward Kenyon Martin on Monday. A restricted free agent, Martin will be eligible to talk with any team during the first two weeks of July. The Nets will have 15 days to match any offer he receives, Thorn said. Stefanski had a big part in the Nets' decision to draft Martin with the No. 1 pick overall in the 2000 NBA Draft.</div> <div align="center">Link</div>
ed stefanski is a smart nba person. i like the move. he was assigned to try and help eddie grif when he signed that contract with us after houston let him go. i like rod and ed as a good basketball one-two punch.
There are talks that this is part of the phase that Rod is leaving the Nets if Ratner limits his movements.
