James Morrison from Boro to West Brom:

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Middlesbrough have agreed a fee to sell midfielder James Morrison to West Bromwich Albion.

The 21-year-old was a member of Boro's 2004 FA Youth Cup-winning side and made his first-team debut, aged 17, the same year. Under former manager Steve McClaren, he also started in the 2006 UEFA Cup final defeat to Seville. But he found it difficult to break into Southgate's starting XI last term, making just 15 league starts for the North East club.

Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate has admitted Morrison's desire to play a greater role could see him head to the Championship club.

"He's down at West Brom having talks and they've agreed a fee with us," he told the Boro club website. "It's a difficult one because with young players you want them to come through into the side - at the moment we are just waiting to see what he wants to do.

"It's whether there's a better guarantee of first-team football for him. We will know more over the next couple of days as to what he wants to do."</div>

James Beattie and David Carney to Sheffield United:

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Sheffield United have signed Everton's James Beattie in a ?4m deal and also completed a swoop for Sydney FC's Australian international David Carney.

Both players were paraded on the Bramall Lane pitch before the friendly against Nottingham Forest.

Blades' boss Bryan Robson was pleased to persuade 29-year-old Beattie to drop into the Championship.

He said: "I'm delighted. We've got a strike force now that ranks as the best in the Championship."

Robson is convinced Beattie can form a strong partnership up front with fellow summer recruit Billy Sharp.

Robson added: "It's a signal of our intention to return to the top flight."

Beattie told BBC Radio Sheffield he was hoping to only spend one season in the Championship.

He said: "I've been very impressed with the manager and the chairman. It's an ambitious club and I'm confident I can help them make a swift return to the top flight.

"Twelve months ago I was starting a new season as Everton's leading goalscorer, but last season was a nightmare.

"If the manager doesn't fancy you anymore you get frozen out and that's what happened to me but life goes on.</div>

Disappointing to see James Morrison leave, I thought he was a talented player and it's not good that he's leaving as he is one of our true right midfielders and that's the position which we have been lacking in for a couple of years now. Good luck to him at WBA.

I actually thought James Beattie was a good player and he was unlucky to find himself on the outer at Everton last year and definitely unlucky that he's had to drop down a league but he wants to take it on so good luck to him. David Carney has a bit of talent and it's good that he's got the chance to move to England.

    Thoughts?
