This doesn't make sense to me unless they are planning to bring Jeff Green in as a super 6th man type, or that he's gonna get traded. If OKC is planning on pairing Millsap with Green as the starting PF and C, then they are for a lack of a better term retarded.
clearly this would appear to push jeff green into the 6th man role which really is a place he should excel in. i like him a lot more as a pf than a sf, but he should still get minutes there and green and millsap likely would still see limited minutes on the floor together at the 4/5.
I wouldn't want to spend the money Millsap is asking for. He's a nice player, but brings a lot of liability on the defensive end for the fact he's undersized at PF. The Thunder were better off sticking with Tyson Chandler last year when they traded for him and then backed out last minute because the owner decided he didn't want to spend the money.
If Green plays the 6th man role, will he be happy with only 20MPG? Durant's gonna play most of the game, and Millsap will probbaly play 35+. I guess they could always play Millsap spot minutes at the 5 though. I think OKC is better off looking to move Green for a center if they get Millsap.
why in the world would he only play 20 minutes per game? even if we slot in durant and millsap for 36 minutes per game each, that leaves green 24 minutes backing up each position and then you throw in 5-10 more minutes for sliding millsap over to play small(or even durant over to play big if the matchup is right) and the minutes are fine.
Durant played 39MPG last year. Green played 37MPG. Now, this year, say they do the same thing, that leaves 20MPG between the SF and PF spots. I don't think Green will accept dropping from 37MPG to 20-24MPG. He's been improving every year, and would probably start on many other teams, so I don't see him accepting this role very well behind Durant and Millsap. I'm not saying it's an impossibility, just not in OKC's best interests. If they do sign Millsap, they can probably get better value using him in a trade for a decent center. Maybe Marc Gasol now that they have Thabeet? I'm just saying that it makes more sense to use Green as an asset to bring in a center, rather than sit him in there being a 6th man.
as i said in my previous post, green easily can get another 10 minutes per game sliding millsap over to center or sliding durant over to sg when the matchups are right(mostly just millsap to center though). it absolutely is in oklahoma city's best interest to have good depth. playing durant 36 minutes, millsap 36 minutes, and green 30 minutes is perfectly fine and all that requires is for millsap to play 6 minutes of center per game which he certainly is capable of doing.
