"While the Detroit Tigers took batting practice Wednesday morning, their game road jerseys were brought into the clubhouse after a local seamstress stitched black circle patches with Harwell's initials, EH, in white onto the right sleeves.

"I wanted to get that done today for Ernie," said Jim Schmakel, Detroit's clubhouse manager for 33 years. "Ernie was so special to me and everybody."

The Tigers will pay tribute to Harwell before the 7:05 p.m. game Monday against the New York Yankees. A flag bearing his initials will be raised on the center field flag pole and be flown through out the season.

    Public viewing for Harwell

There will be a public viewing for Harwell beginning at 7 this morning at Comerica Park. Viewing will be located at Gate A, with the public invited to pay respects. Complimentary parking will be available in Lots 1, 2 and 3."
