Former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber has filed papers to come out of retirement and try to revive his NFL career, his agent, Mark Lepselter, confirmed to ESPN Tuesday. Barber, who turns 36 in April, hasn't played since the 2006 season with the Giants, where he spent his entire 10-year career. Most recently he had been a correspondent for "The Today Show" and "Sunday Night Football" on NBC, but the network did not renew his contract. He has been doing video work for Yahoo! Sports. Barber, who had two years left on his Giants contract when he retired, will not be making his comeback with New York. "We wish Tiki nothing but the best, and when we are able to make the transaction, we will release him from our reserve/retired list," team spokesman Pat Hanlon said in a statement. While owners and players are engaged in talks for a new collective bargaining agreement, teams are not allowed to make roster moves. Well, a team should take a chance on him, there is no logical reason not too. He was very productive when he retired, and he hasn't had the wear and tear on his body the last 4 years that a typical RB still playing would, so I could see him playing above expectations if he is signed by a team.
Big difference: he didn't retire at 26, he retired at 33. He'll be 37 now, he's lost (not one) two steps.
That's what I mean, at 33 he was still very productive and durable, not like your typical RB of that age. Since that time, he's had nothing but rest for 4 years, I bet he could come in and do just as good if not better than a current 30+ year old RB.
