Don't know if any of you saw it but I flipped over to ESPN for a bit and Tim was saying how he hoped we get 3rd seed so we can match up with LA in the western conference finals. He thought we were the team in the west that could give the Lakers a strong run for their money and he didn't want it to happen early in the second round. Kind of shocked me to be getting so much national praise this quickly. He talked about how we have 3 great big men, a bunch of deadly 3 point shooters and a ~top 6 player to close out games.
I would love that too, but I'm not so sure. I don't think we're going to get 3rd. At this point I'm just hoping for fourth.
I really want Houston to lose. It'll be in Dallas, so there's a very real chance. If all home teams win on Wednesday, then Portland is a 3rd seed. Dallas is 31-9 at home. Houston is 20-20 on the road.
For that scenario to happen, New Orleans has to win (beating the Spurs) which would give them the 6 seed, I believe.
Cleveland sweeping San Antonio in the regular season didn't stop the Spurs from sweeping them in the finals back in 2007. Portland's only played Dallas one more game than that. I'm not saying that automatically translates that way, but a best of seven leaves a team much better prepared for their opponent than being prepared for only one game. We'll just have to wait and see, but Portland vs. Dallas in the first to me seems like the most likely of scenarios.
If San Antonio loses, Houston loses, we win, and New Orleans wins, wouldn't we be in 3rd and the Hornets in 6th?
San Antonio is the home team on Wednesday. They stand a good chance of winning rather than New Orleans, IMO.
I agree that we would give the Lakers the best series. The scariest parts about getting the 3rd seed are what Chris Paul did to us before he got injured in that game and having to beat Denver in Denver, or Dallas if they happen to beat Denver. I think we can overcome both of those things, but I'm not sure if that is actually the easiest path for us in the playoffs? Is it?
If all home teams win, then San Antonio will be the 3 seed, I believe. They'll be in a tie with Portland, but the first tie-breaker is division champion. Houston losing would mean San Antonio is the division champ, so they'd win the tie-breaker with Portland. Portland would get the 4 seed and Houston would be the 5 seed. I think that's right?
I don't want Dallas. Other than Portland, they might be the hottest team going into the playoffs in the West. Add the fact that they are a veteran team and swept us this season, I'd say you're asking for trouble.
i want the blazers to get the 4 seed and play the spurs. beating the spurs will be good for the blazers and i do think the blazers have the best shot against the lakers in the west which is why i want to make sure that it happens. i want to get to see a lakers/blazers series and i'd prefer them not to each have to survive 2nd round series because that makes it less likely to happen.
LaMarcus, Rudy, Travis, Brandon, Joel, are all playing their best basketball going into the playoffs. Even Sergio is playing well.
