Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim Sylvia has been having a hard time recovering from his 36-second smashing at the hands of MMA GOAT Fedor Emelianenko in July. The loss was his third in four fights, having dropped title fights to Minotauro Nogueira and Randy Couture since 2007. Sylvia reportedly made a million dollars for his fight with The Russian Experiment. However, Sylvia hasn't been looking to capitalize on his moment in Affliction MMA's spotlight. Instead of looking for a contender fight with an Affliction heavyweight such as Josh Barnett, or a free agent (Mirko Cro Cop, Sergei Kharitonov, Mark Hunt, Aleks Emelianenko, etc.), Sylvia has been scouting for a tune-up in the form of 45-year old human punchline Ken Shamrock.

Sylvia was tentatively scheduled to face Shamrock at a small show in Texas but the date was changed to February. Though the fight is still possible, Sylvia's agent and M-1 executive Monty Cox has been angling to get Sylvia onto FieLDS co-promoted Dream/K-1 card in Saitama on New Year's, Dynamite!! 2008. Failing that, Sylvia may compete on World Victory Road's January card, Sengoku: Seventh Battle instead. No opponent has been named or even rumoured for either promotion.

Mirko Cro Cop recently rejected Alistair Overeem's overtures to fight a rematch at the Dynamite!! card (by most reports) and is expected to face Sergei Kharitonov instead (which, oddly, would probably be an even more difficult fight considering the Russian's more well-rounded MMA game, and the fact Kharitonov defeated Overeem in 2007 by knockout). This leaves The Demolition Man without an opponent. A heavyweight clash between Overeem and Sylvia makes a million miles of sense. Japanese MMA fans have a penchant for gimmicky fights and putting two towering heavyweights against each other (Overeem is 6'5") would appeal to their sensibilities. Also, both fighters are strictly stand-up warriors so the fight would be an even one. Both fighters are in a position to better their standing in the fight world with a decisive win over a notable opponent and both should be ready to fight at the end of the month.

The hitch is that Sylvia might be looking for an ego booster, which is pretty much the only way to explain why he would want to fight Ken Shamrock. A fight with Overeem might be more competitive than he is looking for. Just my $0.02.

Tim Syliva is a joke if hes seriously considering fighting Shamrock, Shamrock is even a bigger joke still sticking around, trying to get a fight. Hes no Couture and hes not gonna be beating anyone at his age.

gawd, I bet Timmy S is soooo happy to be free of the UFC now... short sighted moron. I guess if he was still with the UFC, he would have been fed to Lesnar, who would have put him on his back inside the first 2 mins of the fight and ended it.
