The NFL has increasingly become a young man’s league, as rookie and sophomore quarterbacks across the nation are showing fans, that you don’t need to be in the league for a long time before you experience success. Two quarterbacks that exemplify this bookie software theory are Denver Broncos starter Tim Tebow and Carolina Panthers starter Cam Newton. The sophomore from Florida and rookie from Auburn, have shown fans and critics alike, that college offenses can be run successfully in the NFL. Today we wonder, who would you, build your fantasy keeper league team around, Tim Tebow or Cam Newton? Between the time the lockout ended and the regular season kicked off no rookie quarterback received as much publicity as 2011 first overall pick Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers. Depending on which side of the fence you were on, you either felt Newton could be a starter for the next 15 years, or felt he would flame out in less than three years similar to former Oakland Raider JaMarcus Russell. On the contrary, Tim Tebow was considered by many to be set to leave the NFL, after pay per head new Head Coach Mike Fox put the former Gator as the third string starter in Denver. Fast forward to week 14 of the NFL betting lines season, and both Newton and Tebow appear more comparable to veteran quarterbacks, rather then players that will flame out quickly. Where Newton has had much individual success this season, Tebow has shown the leadership qualities of a grizzled veteran. Ultimately, the debate as to which quarterback you would rather build your team around comes down to character and skill. In terms of skill, Cam Newton far and away is the better talent over Tim Tebow. Newton is living up to his billing as a number one draft pick, as he has a pass completion percentage of 60 percent, and over 3200 yards passing. Conversely, Tim Tebow has a 41 percent completion rate and 1500 yards passing. Add in the fact, that Newton has carried the Panthers, while Tebow has been the beneficiary of a good defense, and you can see why fans are quick to jump on the Newton bandwagon. Now, one of the main arguments that bettors have when cheering for Tebow, is that he always manages to get the job done in the final moments of the game. In the world of professional sports, your ability to close out games may be just as important as your overall success. For that reason, it makes sense to enjoy the Tebow stardom as of this writing. However, in our honest opinion, in three years from now, Tim Tebow is either converted to a running back or is out of the NFL all together. Meanwhile, Cam Newton is helping the Carolina Panthers back to the playoffs and maybe even the Super Bowl.
