<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> The Nets didn't play last night, but they may have suffered the biggest setback of their season.

The resolution of the Tim Thomas buyout agreement was nearly final last night, and it included the provision that the Paterson native would not play for an Eastern Conference team once he is released to become a free agent.

According to a league official, Thomas is headed to Phoenix, which has a frontcourt shortage because of the recent loss of Kurt Thomas, who might miss the rest of the season with a stress fracture in his foot. </div>

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Terms of the buyout were not disclosed, but the Bulls are on the hook for all but about $300,000 of the nearly $14 million Thomas is earning this season, assuming he joins another team.

The Bulls' only wish was for Thomas to go to the Western Conference. If he joined an Eastern Conference team, he could haunt the Bulls down the stretch or in the playoffs if they advance.

Even with injuries, Phoenix is a force behind veterans such as Steve Nash and Shawn Marion. The Suns don't need him for much and, at this point, Thomas probably will be content for a chance to impress some team for another contract.

Suns officials declined comment, but coach Mike D'Antoni told reporters in Phoenix the team definitely would look at any player who could help the franchise.

Thomas wanted to go home to Jersey and play with the Nets. the provision is the only reason he will now go to Phoenix. The 76ers shot down rumors of interest in Thomas last week in a newspaper report.

Just another news bit we will likely sign a player to a 10 day contract to fill the empty roster spot. Most likely that player will be either James Thomas or Holcomb both of who served a stint earlier in the season with the Bulls.

Thomas signed with the Suns. Had a good game today against Orlando with 20 points.
