Russian guard Alexey Shved has agreed to a three-year, $10 million deal with the Timberwolves and said coach Rick Adelman's faith in young players helped convince him to pick Minnesota, according to a Monday, July 23, interview with R-Sport, a division of RIA Novosti, Russia's state news agency.

"Minnesota's a good, young and ambitious team," said Shved, who also had offers from the Memphis Grizzlies and Cleveland Cavaliers. "All those factors were reasons to choose this club in particular, plus coach Adelman. They say that Rick trusts young players and discovers talents, and I'm ready to work for my part."

Shved, 23, hasn't signed yet. The 6-foot-6 Shved would join Denver Nuggets center Timofey Mozgov as Russian-born players in the NBA.

Shved can play both guard positions. He averaged 10.6 points and 3.0 assists in Euroleague action, shooting 48.7 percent -- 49.3 percent on three-pointers. In 22 Russian League games, he averaged 11.3 points and 3.3 assists.

The Timberwolves are still working to finalize a deal with former Portland Trail Blazers shooting guard Brandon Roy. The former NBA All-Star, who had retired in 2011 because of a degenerative condition in his knees, reportedly has a two-year offer worth $10 million.

The Timberwolves made an offer Saturday to Boston Celtics center Greg Stiemsma, according to Stiemsma's agent, Mike Naiditch. The 6-11 Stiemsma is a restricted free agent. Boston has until Tuesday to match the Timberwolves' offer, but Naiditch said he doesn't expect Boston to match.

Other free agents under consideration by the Timberwolves include forwards Dominic McGuire and Brandon Rush of the Golden State Warriors, forward Ronny Turiaf of the Miami Heat and forward Anthony Tolliver, who played the previous two seasons with the Timberwolves.
