Does anybody think that Richardson has any worth out there as a trade bait, sure i like to watch him posterize players when he dunks but, he seems to inconsistent and is lacking ball handling. I think the way his legs are bold legged, it prevents him from handling the ball better, but that is my thoery. Please feel free to scrutinize!!!! Thanks
He's got worth but if you think the amount of time invested into this player, he could be the answer as the go-to guy and a team leader. If you think about Jrich's other qualities off the basketball court, he's a pretty good guy, he's shown some leadership, and his work ethic is great in that he always wants to improve the areas of his game that are the weakest. His ballhandling skills for instance has improved quite a bit and so has his footwork (jumping off one foot for instance), but you'd have to wait until this season to see whether he is more of a finished product and if he can take a man off the dribble and score 20+ ppg (including high accuracy free throws and wide open 3's) on a consistent basis. BTW Jrich can't dribble as well because I think his feet are too big for his size. Watch that one blazers game where he dribbles out the clock and loses the ball off his foot to Rasheed Wallace, who then almost runs it down for a breakaway dunk (Thanks Speedy for the defensive stop otherwise it would have been even more embarassing for Jrich). Both the Blazers and the Warriors ended up laughing with Jrich because who loses the ball in the final seconds of a blowout without any pressure on the ball? Yup, Jrich has just got those clown feet and I'm pretty sure he brags about them too.
J-Rich definately has worth but as CR stated, he is just too valuable to this team right now. Unless someone brings an amazing offer to the table, J-Rich is staying in Oakland. btw- Welcome coldsauce.
J-Rich isn't worth much because if he were, he'd be gone already. As far as being valuable to the team and being a nice guy. This is the same guy who skipped practice and complained about not getting playing time and he was always griping about Musselman. Whatcan you get for J-Rich? Who's gonna give someone good for him? A 2 guard that can't handle the ball, shaky D, and inconsistent shooting. Custodian I thought I was the only one who notices that he dunks on two feet instead of one. I say trade him in a package deal with Dampier. The best players out of his draft year are Gasol, #3, RichardJefferson #13, Zach Randolph #19, Tony Parker #28,Gilbert arenas #31. Plus the 3 high schoolers, Chandler, Curry and Brown. But with the exception of the high schoolers, the names I mentioned have progressed farther along than Richardson. I told people from the beginning that Richardson wasn't going to be a superstar, but people said "wait give him a year to develop)... it's been 3 years. Trade him now, before he loses value.
Mullin17, Where have you been in the last year? All the things that you mentioned about Jrich, he has improved. His ball handling skills are not great, but much improved. His defense is the same as his handles. He hit 43% from the field, and 28% from the 3pt line. So his shot is ok. The year before he might have shot a little bit better. I know he was over 30% from 3pt land. Here is what Jrich brings to the table. He is a big guard that can score 18-20pts per game consistently, rebound 6-8 times per game and brings athleticism and flair to a team. What really gets the team going is when he gets a steal and breaks away for an exciting and uplifting windmill dunk. He is a 2 time slam dunk champ (he got robbed the 3rd time) that will sell tickets. Every year he has improved his game, and if he keeps going at this rate, he will be an All Star. I predict within the next 2 years he will be scoring will be up to 24ppg and on the Western Confernence All Star team.
^ Even though there are a lot of problems with J-Rich's game, you have to compare him to the other starting 2's in the game. He's still somewhere in the top third; probably falling somewhere after Rip Hamilton and ahead of Q-Rich. I'm not adverse to trading J-Rich, I just think you might be a bit too down on his value (trade value at least.) He's been pretty consistent and although he's probably close to his peak, only a few others below him have a chance to jump up ahead of him. (Not considering this years' rookies, though, I haven't been able to evaluate them in a game.) Here's my list if you were interested, of the top 40 shooting guards or so, based mostly on the previous seasons and game (have to include those 6th men and guys who play forwards but really are guards). 1. K.Bryant (LA), 2. T.McGrady (Hou), 3. P.Pierce (Bos), 4. L.James (Cle), 5. A.Iverson (Phi), 6. M.Redd (Mil), 7. R.Artest (Ind), 8. R.Allen (Sea), 9. V.Carter (Tor), 10. M.Finley (Dal), 11. R.Hamilton (Det), 12. J.Richardson (GS) , 13. Q.Richardson (LAC/Pho), 14. S.Jackson (Ind), 15. J.Johnson (Pho), 16. M.Ginobili (SA), 17. M.Daniels (Dal), 18. J.Crawford (Chi/NY) , 19. E.Jones (Mia), 20. T.Hassell (Min), 21. D. Christie (Was), 22. L.Hughes (Sac), 23. J.Rose (Tor), 24. C.Mobley (Orl), 25. V.Lenard (Den), 26. M.Miller (Mem), 27. F.Murray (Sea), 28. B.Jackson (Sac), 29. R.Miller (Ind), 30. K.Kittles (NJ), 31. G.Giricek (Utah), 32. D.Anderson (Por), 33. H.Turkoglu (Orl), 34. B.Wells (Mem), 35. B.Sura (Atl/FA), 36. D.Wesley (NO), 37. S.Anderson (NY), 38. D.Stevenson (Orl), 39. A.Houston (NY) No rookies were harmed (or included) in the filming of this episode. I haven't revisited that list since the end of the season, so it's probably a bit outdated.

I guess I was just getting tired of seing him dunk and only score 15 today and 11 tommorow when I just really want him to just flat out score!!! I guess after seeing Mcgrady and Iverson awhile, you too unpatient and literally want the same performance out of J-Rich. I just don't want him to turn out to be just a dunking champion, I want him to be more, on the other hand, I want petrius to start!!
If our best player has this much trade value, I guess our team isn't that great. Anyhow, I believe JRich has incredible potential and has shown a lot so far. His offense once it keeps getting polished is amazing. He can score from almost anywhere on the court(almost like Kobe when he gets hot). He's shown his ability to post up and score around the basket, score on the fast break, score with the little turn around jumper, his midrange game improved a lot last year, his outside shooting was good two seasons ago, and i think he can get back to that form again along with his FT shooting, and his ability to take the ball to the hoop is also improving and has become another weapon he can use. His PG skills for the lack of a better term, were decent also, nothing you could complain or insult JRich on. He turned into a good/solid playmaker and even a good passer at times in the end of the season when Speedy went down. I believe JRich's playmaking skills as a passer and distributer were just as good if not better than Dunleavy's. Then add his competitiveness and rebounding and you have a very good player with Jason Richardson. It's all not there at this moment, but when it comes this guy is going to be incredible(I think this season will be his time to shine real big). Also don't forget he's very young, just as old as Dunleavy. So he has room to grow a lot. And if you want Pietrus to start, why not start him over Dunleavy? That's what I've been saying and thinking for a while now. I mean if you want to get rid of players with holes in their game and play Pietrus over them, then why not start Pietrus over Mike? Pietrus is long and athletic enough to play the 3 I think. Dunleavy has more holes than JRich...

I've been watching Dallas Maverick games. I wanna root for the warriors, but I just can't find myself rooting for Richardson. Granted he has improved but.. His potential is almost tapped out .. I don't see him getting any better. I actually went to a warriors game last year. It was against portland. But I can't wait for Warriors vs. Wizarriors. That's gonna be great.... and I don't see richardson being an all star in a league, with Kobe, Mcgrady, Finley, possibly Carter coming over. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Warriorfansnc93:</div><div class="quote_post">Mullin17, Where have you been in the last year? I'd put Q-Rich over him, Gnobili, Eddie Jones is still better than him, Allan Houston,JRose... and Larry hughes... because they can do what Richardson can't... they can take pressure of the PG by helping with th eball handling abilities. And you forget that richardson's FT% is really low for a 2 guard... Even Jamal Crawfor shows last year that he can be an impact player.. and Crawford can play 1 or 2. He just needs to learn which way to move when two defenders come at him during a halfcourt trap.
I didn't put any of my analysis into it, so here's my explanation in reguards to the players you mentioned. First, the easy question - yeah, Spre is a 2. He's been playing forward for a few years now, so I forgot that he really should be at the 2. I'd most likely put him behind Jones, before his teammate Hassell. Now, onto the harder stuff. J-Rich and Q-Rich are pretty close in terms of value to a team at the big guard spot, and this is probably the toughest comparison. They're about the same age with similar numbers. I put J-Rich ahead mainly because his development has been more stable. Q-Rich has always been well-regarded but didn't break out until last season; beforehand, he was up and down. He has worse passing, ball-handling, and handles than J-Rich, but he also has a much better shot (which was only ok coming into the league). On the negative, he has a poor shot selection. Because Q-Rich is heavier than J-Rich and a bit stronger, he tends to play/defend more like a 3, although both players are great on the glass. If he developed a bit better passing game, he'd be ahead of J-Rich, but right now, I don't think he's passed him yet. Ginobili is underrated in terms of several skills - he has great passing skills (watch him go for no look passes), great hands (no look steals), and is pretty fearless driving. But, for all his skills, he doesn't have a great shot, and he plays too far off his defender to be a true defensive, 1-on-1 defender. His shot is probably what put him on the bench last season and probably this upcoming season (in favor of Brent Barry.) A great, superb energy player who works great on his team, but that doesn't exactly move him up too much farther. Larry Hughes and Jalen Rose are both great players, they remind me of each other a lot. I'll go with Hughes first. I have to give a lot of credit to Hughes for carrying the load on the Wizards' team when the other star players were hurt. But for a player who did take most of the shots on that team, he had a horrible percentage. He's improved his 3 point shot a lot over the past 2 years, and has always been athletic (and a bit thin). But, he's never been spectacular, and has had a lot of sup-par seasons and never was the go-to-guy except when he was on the warriors, while J-Rich has at least hit a few game-winning shots and driven over other players when the game was on the line, even if he's messed up more than a few times. His ball-handling skills aren't that much better - he's prone to driving into nowhere, and throwing the ball away. Rose is more of a forward, but I shoved him in as a guard. Like Hughes, he's always been a bit lanky, but this hasn't been a problem. His age hurts his value, being over 30 always makes you a step slow. Also like Larry, he never was a true go-to guy, but is one of the best second options for a team. Great passer, but never a good rebounder, and a below average defender, who also gives up a lot of turnovers. In his younger days, he'd be better than J-Rich, though. Eddie Jones was one of my favorite players, but I don't agree that his age hasn't caught up to him. He used to be a great defender, but now he's a step slow, so he's going to get a lot less steals and rebounds (not like he was ever a great rebounder) and also have a few guys blow by him. He's still a good scorer, without question, but his overall game has slipped. Thus, his value is a bit low. Houston is ranked so low because I took the most recent season as the greatest consideration. Since Houston's knees are still questionable, I put him at the end. He's ahead of a lot of other guards, but near the end of starting 2-guards in terms of current value. *Edit: Forgot Crawford, duh.* Crawford is ranked a bit lower because he's got the Larry Hughes game on him. Not a true 1, not a true 2. Needs to develop his body a lot more, but a good scorer. Athletic, and can run and pass well obviously. As per alot of the other guards, horrible shot selection, he flings them up there. One of the better ballhandlers for a 2-guard though, he doesn't have too many turnovers. Still, he's behind Richardson in terms of scoring ability. Feel free to disagree, as I said, I took last season as the measuring stick for these guys. It's based more on "now" than potential, although you can't ignore some players' potentials.
